Chapter 92: I Thought You Cared

What comes easy won't last. What lasts won't come easy.

Two weeks had gone by since Dani had said goodbye to Nate. Her house felt so empty without him in it, and what used to be her sanctuary was now a place she dreaded going to. Reece didn't understand why Dani was in such a bad mood, and she didn't know where her Uncle Nate had gone.

Worse than dealing with her daughter were the lonely nights after she'd gone to bed. Dani had grown used to having someone around, and now that she was alone, she felt the void.

Case in point, she was sitting on her sofa watching some horrible documentary about chicken farms while drinking a glass of wine.

"Yo, sis!" Austin called as he walked through the front door.

"You know the doorbell actually works. You paid enough money for that video one."

Austin smiled at her. "That's for other people."

"Goodie." After taking a sip of her wine she asked, "To what do I owe the pleasure of your company?"
