"Mother-in-law, I brought you some porridge since you didn't eat much at dinner." Clarice whispered as she placed the bowl of porridge next to Gretta, who looked up, glanced at her daughter-in-law cautiously, and was no longer as angry. She gestured for Clarice to sit on the stool in front of her.

"To be honest, did that girl with the surname Gatti dislike you in the past?" Clarice knew her mother-in-law was concerned about her.

"I never had much contact with her, to be honest. I just know that she never liked me, but I don't let it affect me!" Hearing this, Gretta let out a long sigh.

"No wonder you told Beatrice that no one ever cared about you since you were young. It's tough for you to be born into a family like that."

"It's not tough. Although I had a rough life in the past, I am actually very grateful, and maybe that's why I cherish my current life even more." Clarice replied sincerely, and even though there was no love between her and Edward, their interaction was very natural
