Chapter Sixty-Four: Return to Mexico

The Mexican sun blazed across the cemetery where Peter was being laid to rest in his family tomb. In the distance she could hear the preacher speaking words of comfort to his friends and family who had come to remember their fallen brother, but like every other person who truly knew Peter, those words would never be enough to fill the void his death left behind.

Selena’s hand tightened around Serenity’s as they watched his family step forward to offer their prayers before the tomb was sealed with an engraved headstone. Nothing about the picture before her seemed normal, it almost seemed like a bad dream she would wake up from, but the longer she stared the louder his voice echoed in her mind.

“Till we meet again, mi amor.”

One by one mourners stepped forward to leave flowers and light candles till it was Serenity’s turn. Serenity placed the yellow rose at the base of the tomb and used the flame of another candle to light hers and placed it at his feet and took a step back.
