“Go ahead, eat. We’ll have time to talk later.”

He didn’t have to ask twice. I pounced on the cart, choosing what to put on my plate. There were so many options.

I opted for a couple of mini sandwiches, a fruit salad, and some sweets for dessert. My grandfather waited patiently for me to finish eating, looking at me with an expression that conveyed peace and maybe a bit of fun.

“Did it take you a long time to get here?” he asked kindly when I finished.

“It wasn’t that difficult, a bit tedious.” I smiled uncomfortably. “They do not have a very accessible place.”

“No one messes with us, but we still have to be careful. The young and old witches live here. Young people are irrational, so they cannot leave this place until they are twenty-one. Elders are very wise, but not very trustworthy,” he confessed in a low whisper. “They grew up in times of war and it is difficult for them to notice that this is not our reality.”
