A Secret Meeting

There was an array of dining tables in the spacious dining chamber. Kayla immediately looked at the dining table reserved for the high-ranking pack members. It was already full with Max, the Alpha, and Luna, Mia, Caron, and Whitney occupying their seats. 

Kayla squinted her eyes as she thought, "What's wrong with the Alpha? He appears a bit tense!" Kayla rolled her eyes, "Who cares? All I care about is Whitney!" Kayla's eyes were about to leave the dining table unless she caught someone staring at her. It was Max. 

Kayla was taken aback by the way he was staring at her. Just like any other she-wolf, Kayla had a crush on him. Her face turned red; the moment Max called him through his eyes. 

Kayla nodded and walked up to the dining table. All the while, her mind was jumping, "Oh my Goddess! He finally noticed me! He is calling me!" 

She bowed to him. Max blinked his eyes and then instructed, "Serve!" Kayla was stunned. She tried to keep that shocked look behind by plastering a fake smile. She wondered, "Why am I asked to serve?! Isn't this task for the lesser-ranked members than omegas?" 

Kayla reluctantly nodded her head. She grabbed the ladle and was about to serve some hot soup to Max when he said in his gruff voice, "Serve my sister first!" 

Walking to the other end of the dining table, Kayla filled the bowl of soup and kept it on the plate. She was examining Whitney from the corner of her eye. Whitney was definitely not happy. 

Whitney deliberately pushed the bowl and the hot soup doused down Kayla's left foot and she screamed in pain, "Aahh!" Keeping the ladle back on the table, Kayla was jumping. Kayla attempted to rush towards the bathroom, but Whitney grabbed her arm and said, "How the hell can you leave midway?! Serve us first!" 

Kayla bit her lower lip and looked down at her red foot. She said worryingly, "Miss Whitney, my foot is burning!" 

Max slapped the table, nearly shaking it as he screeched, "So what?! Your duty is to serve us! Do it and then get your feet clean, come on!" 

Kayla shuddered on seeing his anger soaring. She hurriedly got back to her job of serving. After serving Elizabeth, she proceeded to serve Alpha John. While she was serving John, a guard came running and bowed, "My Alpha, he arr…" Kayla was shaken when the Alpha pushed his chair and rose from it all of a sudden. He said frantically, "Okay!" With that Alpha left the dining table without having supper. 

"Strange! Alpha didn't let the guard complete the sentence. Whom was he talking about? Alpha left the supper midway; something is definitely wrong?" Kayla thought. 

She got snapped out of her thoughts when Max tapped the table twice. She hurriedly got to Max's side and started serving. As she was serving, Max said in his low tone, "You know what, you caught my eye and I was planning to have a special night in my chamber with you!" 

Kayla was surprised. She exclaimed, keeping her tone low, "What! Really?!" Max continued, "But it seems like I misunderstood Kayla." Soon Max brushed his leg over Kayla's seductively. He continued,

"Kayla is just like her sister, Skyla. You let Whitney down by not hitting Skyla. Seems like we need to treat you the way we treat your sister. Whitney gave you punishment. Now it's my time!" 

He stomped his shoe over Kayla's red foot and she screamed, driving everyone's attention toward her. Kayla begged, "Please, please leave me!" Max released her foot. Pulling her arm harshly, he growled, "Punishment done for the day. Tomorrow, prepare yourself for stronger and harsh punishments, the one we give to Skyla! Now leave!" 

Kayla became teary. She rushed towards the bathroom. Taking off her stiletto, she placed her foot below the running tap water. She screeched, her tone breaking apart as her eyes welled with tears, "Tonight was supposed to be mine and Max's but just because I didn't hit Skyla, I am treated like this!" 

She shook her head and wiping off her tears, she shrilled, "Nope, I don't want to lie down in the dumps like Skyla. I need to level up my game, somehow!" She turned off the tap and wiped her foot. Wearing the stiletto, she stormed out of the bathroom. She passed by a narrow passage but stopped. 

Turning to the left, she said, "Isn't this emergency passage closed all the time? Why is it open tonight?" 

Kayla heard a series of footsteps and she hid inside the bathroom. Peeping from the bathroom door, she saw John and the guard hurriedly passing by. Her ears caught some words of the guard speaking to Alpha, "Prince is waiting for you in the emergency chamber." 

Kayla pulled her head inside the bathroom and wondered, "Prince?! Prince Harrington is here?" Prince Harrington was the son of King Kingsley. They were the royal werewolves who were the most powerful, having a ruling hand over every single pack of the werewolf world. The prince himself visiting the pack is an honor for that pack and the pack would organize a welcome ceremony. 

Once the footsteps were no longer audible, Kayla got out of the washroom. She murmured, "No welcome ceremony for THE PRINCE! I am sure he is here by one of the secret passages and the prince himself won't use some secret passage until something very important comes up. I have to find out what's happening!" 

Kayla carefully walked inside the emergency passage and stood outside the emergency chamber. Leaning her ear against the door, she tried to listen to what they were talking. 

She could hear the prince asking in a solemn voice, "Alpha John, where are your family members? We can't discuss this important matter without them!" 

Alpha John's tone was distinct from his usual tone. It was softer rather than that authoritative, gruff tone he had always used. 

"Prince Harrington, we pack members have supper together. If all of us would suddenly leave the supper, other pack members might find it odd!" 

Prince responded, "Okay! We can meet after supper then. Till then tell me if the monthly allowance is ready! It's due for a week now. I have bargained with the Crystal Blue Pack and extended the allowance time by one more week. I hope your pack can make it up till then!"

A few moments of silence took place before the prince broke it in his rough voice, "Is it ready or not?" 

Kayla was perplexed, "What's this monthly allowance and why are we paying to the Crystal Blue Pack?" 

John said hesitantly, "Our pack's business is running at a loss, we can't make it till one week! Also, they have raised their amount!" 

Prince got infuriated, "So, what do you expect them to do? They have your biggest secret in their hands. Why won't they take advantage of it? If this secret comes out in front of the king, don't expect me that I will save you! Arrange for the money or get ready for the war!" 

Kayla's eyes went wide. 

"Oh my God! What's brewing? Alpha John has a secret, a secret that can put an end to his rule or should I say not only his rule but existence too! I thought the prince is the holy one, but it seems like he is sinful just like the Red Moon Pack!" 

The discussion inside the emergency chamber stopped abruptly when out of blue they heard a phone ringing. Kayla almost jumped when her phone started ringing. 

She cursed herself, "F*ck!" She quickly disconnected the call. 

The prince snarled, "Who's there outside?!"
