A squint-eyed Skyla asked, "What did you say?"

Tucking her hair behind her earlobes, Skyla had her hand pressing his arm. She said, "Tell me, dear!"

The man's voice was so weak that Skyla couldn't catch it.

The man's head was spinning. His breaths went raggy when he tried to answer Skyla.

His voice was faint and strained as he said, "M… Ma…"

Before the man would call Skyla as his mate, Skyla placed her finger on his lips and sealed his mouth, preventing the words from rolling out of his tongue.

With a frown face, Skyla said, her voice shaky, "Don't strain yourself, dear! It's time to store your energy, okay?"

She ran her soft fingers down his neck and tears streamed down her eyes. Seeing the man injured and back to the heart wrenching state when Skyla found him broke her heart. It felt as if an important element of her life was taken away from her. After passing a last, quick glance, Skyla sprang to her feet and ran toward the bushes.
