Oliver’s POV
Watching the woman with the man that installed the sign talk made me jealous for some reason. The way he flirted with her was something that made me want to go over and tell him to back off, thankfully he didn’t say around. After she left, I was able to concentrate again; Jack and Ryan will be coming later tonight to figure out where she at least lived and her routine.
“I still think it’s not a good idea to stalk the human,” Micah said walking over to me.
“Well good thing you’re not the Alpha,” I said without looking at him. “I have a feeling about her, something unexplainable, and until I figure it out she needs to be protected,” I said looking at him. “If I feel you are going to be the one stalking her, you are not to question it.”
Micah crossed his arms, he hated when I talked down to him, but when I’m in a mood he knew not to bother with me, but somehow he was missing that I was in that mood. “You’d put me on babysitting duty?” he said cocking an eyebrow.
“If you keep complaining about it yeah I will. I’ll even make you buy things for her and deliver them to her.” I said as my jaw tightened I couldn’t wait until the boys were there, it would make me feel better knowing at least where she lived and that she was protected at least from our point. I didn’t like this odd feeling in the pit of my stomach about her, it was something I couldn’t explain.
“I’ve never seen you act this way, Oliver. What gives?” he said crossing his arms.
“I didn’t like how Marks looked at her, I have a feeling he is going to try something with her. My wolf is even acting weird.” I said looking at him, we both know not to question our wolves, usually they were right when they were aware of something off. Drew was acting all weird as soon as I laid eyes on her. We didn’t have to smell her to know something about her was special.
“You know I am going to go over there and see what she is about,” Micah said looking out the window. “Do we know when she is going to open the store?”
“No,” I said looking back out the window, she was back now. I smiled. “Soon I am sure; you can see she is excited. Could be tomorrow the next day, she is almost done. Looks like she is putting on the final touches to the store.”
“Good I need to settle whatever you are feeling because you are not acting like an Alpha, you are acting like a pup.” He sneers. “But if something happens we’ll at least be prepared. The boys will be here in an hour.” He said before walking away.
As the night wore on, customers died down. Jake and Ryan came and found me standing by the window.
“We’re here Alpha,” Jake said bowing.
“The girl across the street, the two of you need to figure out her routine, find out where she lives,” I said looking at him. “The vampires are interested in her and we will figure out why later.”
“Or so Oliver thinks,” Micah said leaning against the counter. “But ensure she doesn’t know you are following her, humans tend to get scared. To hide in the shadows. Ensure she is safe, at least until Oliver is over her.”
“May I speak freely?” Ryan asked.
“You may,” Oliver said looking away.
“Is, is she your mate?” he said taking in a deep breath. The warriors knew not to question me, but it was a valid question. It was something I couldn’t ignore, but it was a question I didn’t have an answer to anyways.
Oliver didn’t answer him right away, his wolf was going crazy. Something inside him wished she was but he couldn’t answer that. “No,” he said looking at him. “But there is something.” He said looking back out the window, his jaw tightened. “Marks.” A growled escaped him.
Everyone looked out the window. “You see now the vampire is interested, you two head out the back shift and follow her,” I said without looking at them.
It took everything I had to keep my feet planted there, otherwise, I would have shifted and attacked Marks and hopefully killed him. I wanted to know what he was talking to her about, what he was telling her. I wanted to know what he was showing her. This was pissing me off, I was seething in anger.
“Calm down Oliver, you cannot control your wolf when you are angry,” Micah said putting his hand on my shoulder. “We will know what he is talking to her about don’t worry, it is good you sent Jake and Ryan they will protect her, and if you are worried I can go too.”
“No, I need you to keep tabs on the vampires,” I said looking at him. “As much as I want you to run over there and tell her to come and talk to us, we cannot do that. We will figure a plan of action, but right now we should close up.” I said glancing at him. “Come Marks is watching,” I said walking away from the window.
We needed to close the coffee shop up, tonight we would get a plan in place and things would be fine. I wasn’t sure what Marks had planned, but whatever it was he was going to use us against her and that is where we had to come up first.
I left Micah to drive the SUV; I wasn’t in the mood to drive which was fine. My mind was on her face, she looked a little scared of Marks and a little pissed off. I wondered if he was feeding her some kind of lie about our store since he glanced over at our store and smiled. She didn’t look at anything but him and whatever he handed her.
“Don’t worry Oliver we’ll figure this out,” Micah said as we pulled into the pack territory.
I didn’t say anything, he wasn’t going to leave this alone, and maybe he felt the same about her that I did now that he saw Marks with the girl. Maybe I was overthinking this and Zack and Ryan will come back and tell me I was crazy.
“They made it back to her apartment,” Micah said looking at me. “Marks went back to his lair. Zach said.”
We walked to my office, I was still nervous as hell and wanted to take Drew out for a run, but it would have to wait at least for a little bit. I have some thinking to do, and had to get a plan in place. “Good. I still want to know what the hell that vampire wants, I know he wants something.” I said sitting in my chair. “I need to talk to her.”
“Good, finally some peace of mind.” Micah taunted. “When tomorrow?”
“No,” I growled. “I need to figure out Marks moves first, I don’t want to put us out there if we don’t need to be out there,” I said leaning back in my chair. “Why would the vampires be interested in her in the first place?”
“She’s a human, someone new to the town. No one knows her, so no one would report her missing right?” Micah said rolling his eyes. “You need to get laid really, or find your mate something.” He said throwing his hands in the air. “I’m going to find my mate, I need a good massage.” He said leaving my office.
“So anything else you find out on the vampire?” I linked to Zach.
“No they all have scattered. I don’t think Marks knows where the girl lives, he is a cop so I am sure he will find out where she lives.”
“Keep tabs on him; I want to know where he goes.”
“Are you sure there is something to worry about with this Alpha?”
“I don’t know, Micah is going to her shop tomorrow and talk to her and see if he can gain information and we’ll go from there,” I said looking down at the papers on my desk. I knew what I was doing was crazy; maybe I should talk to her and call this whole thing off. I mean I am a stalker, right?
“She made it home safe, the girl is beautiful,” Ryan said linking me. “She has a different smell, doesn’t smell wolf, but doesn’t smell human only.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yeah not sure how to explain, you will have to smell her when you meet you, she is interesting, looks like she lives alone.” He linked. “I will keep watch doesn’t look like vampires are around, if they are they are silent.”
“Come back here, they won’t bother in her room, they have to be invited. You’ll leave early in the morning to ensure she makes it to her store safely.”
“Understood.”
Soma’s POVGetting back to my apartment, I felt safe. Before I closed the door, I looked to see if anyone was following me. I had butterflies in my stomach I don’t know why I was so bothered by the cop and why he showed me a picture of some guy. Maybe there was a crime family in the area, I have heard about New York and the Mafia but why would they go after a shop that just opened. I had no money, no business.Walking over to the window, I looked out, “Come on Soma, now you’re crazy.” I said shaking my head before I closed the curtains.Mouse sat near his bowl; I fed him and ordered some Chinese. Something about orange chicken tonight would be awesome. It would take forty-five minutes, I didn’t mind. I took a quick shower and then poured myself some wine. Something about the glass of wine made me feel relaxed, I don’t know why I was on edge, the cop was probably just looking out for me and I should be thankful someone was around to keep tabs on my store for me.A loud knock startled m
Oliver’s POVBarely able to contain myself I was able to sit down, that intoxicating smell. I wasn’t sure what to make of it. Closing my eyes I held my breath until both my wolf and I calmed down. That was like a roller coaster ride, it was a high I didn’t want to come down from, but I needed to control myself whatever that was I wasn’t ready for, but it was amazing.“Oliver?” Micah spoke. “You okay?”Opened my eyes, and found him staring at me curiously, “I’m fine. Did you smell that, an overwhelming smell of fresh pine and waterfalls?” I could still taste it on my tongue.Micah cocked an eyebrow. “You’ve lost your mind. There is no such smell here, maybe you should go downtown there is a problem I need to be fixed. Marks is causing a scene.” He said throwing papers at me. “Fresh pine and waterfalls.” He chuckled.Grabbing the papers off the desk, I looked down. One of our coffee vendors was due to make a delivery this morning and hadn’t. Rolling my eyes I seriously didn’t want to de
Soma’s POVThe day seemed to go by fast, I was busy and I was exhausted, my mind wandered back to the cop. I wasn’t sure why he was threatening me. I was new to this place and he didn’t have to be so mean. I went to the coffee shop once, maybe I should say something to the owners of the shop just so they know a police officer is going around telling people about them. I wasn’t sure if that was a good idea or not. I didn’t want enemies and I didn’t want problems either.Locking up the money, and cleaning up the little bit of mess. I stocked the shelves so I didn’t have to do it tomorrow before I opened. I yawned, I didn’t want to drive home, even if it was only a few minutes from here, I wish I had a bed in the back, tonight it would have been awesome to sleep here.Turning off the lights, and locking up the store, a cold breeze sent shivers down my spine, I knew winter was coming, but damn I wasn’t ready for it just yet.My hands trembled as I unlocked the car, I felt watched, but I d
Oliver’s POV“I haven’t touched a female, relaxed Drew!”Drew gave me control, I relaxed my hold on Micah and shook my head, and left the coffee shop, I don’t know what the hell just happened. Drew went silent, and I was too dazed and confused to understand anything. Who was he talking about, who was his? We have no mate. At least not until I get the answers about Soma, she may or may not be our mate. She isn’t human, a wolf, or a vampire, and things weren’t adding up.“We have no mate, Drew,” I said to him, but he completely ignored him. I was getting pissed. I wanted to know why he freaked out the way he did, and why he wouldn’t talk to me now. This was going to be a long way and I wasn’t going to go back to the coffee shop until he told me what the hell was going on. “Come on Drew I need to know what is going on, that smell, you freaked out.”“Mate.” He growled and said nothing more.I wasn’t sure going back to the coffee shop was a good idea, but I needed to find out where they we
Soma’s POVI wasn’t sure how long I sat there, but the sun was down and they were already closing down, the clerk behind the counter brought me another coffee and some more cookies.“We’re closing up, Boss said to bring these to you.” he half-smiled setting them down in front of me. “I hope you have a better day tomorrow.”“Thanks,” I said getting up from the table. I wasn’t sure how tomorrow was going to be, I was scared it was going to turn to shit and I would be out of a shop and this cop was going to make my life hell.I decided I wasn’t going to open the store tomorrow. Running across the street, I unlocked the store and quickly wrote a note and posted it on the door. Looking around I frowned tears formed in my eyes. This was my whole life and I was letting some halfwit detective bully me, he wasn’t going to win but I didn’t fight tonight. Locking the door, I headed home. Mouse greeted me with a long meow.“Don’t look at me like that.” I hissed at him. “I know I could have been s
Oliver’s POVI wasn’t sure where I was running, so I shifted and let Drew out and let him lead us. He was pissed, so he needed to run this off. I knew Micah was right about everything, if she was our mate, she would be in danger and if Marks had her in his sights, there was a reason for it. I just hoped he didn’t know anything more than we did at least for now.For some reason we ended up near an apartment building, I wasn’t sure why we were here and Drew wasn’t answering me so I let him have his way, at least until we ran into Ryan.“Alpha why are you here?” he questioned.“Why are you?” I narrowed my eyes at him as he handed me some clothes.“I’m protecting the girl as you requested.” He said taking a step back. “Did something happen that you are here?”“No I let Drew come out for a run, and we ended up here. I am wondering if he knew she was here. He isn’t speaking to me right now, he’s upset we will not talk with the girl.” I said looking around. “So the girl is around here?”“Yes
Soma’s POVI decided to head to my bed, laying my head down, the room was still spinning but I was glad to make it to my bed. I didn’t want to face the detective, but I didn’t have any choice. I wasn’t hiding anything, but I wasn’t sure what he had on me. I was innocent in this whole thing, and I wasn’t sure if he was going to pin something on me and make it stick to bring down Oliver or get him to react. I didn’t even know who Oliver was really.Waking up the next morning, I had a major hangover, I knew I shouldn’t have drunk as much as I did. Crawling out of bed, I took myself to the shower. Once I finished I was feeling a little better. Getting myself ready for the day I was dreading, I kissed the mouse before I left for the day.Driving to the tea shop seemed short, there weren’t any cars in front of the store I was thankful for that. Opening the store like I normally did, I grabbed the money from the safe, and walked around the store. My nerves were shot, I was scared.I remember
Soma’s POVI wasn't even sure I wanted to keep the store open. This made my heart hurt and I was angry too. I wanted to do something, Detective Marks didn’t have a right to do this to my store. I wasn't even sure what he was looking for, and now he took the one thing that made me happy away.Tossing the rest of the ruined product into the dumpster behind the store, I cried hard. I don’t know how long I stood by the smelly trash but when I was done crying all I thought about was going home. Not to my apartment, but back home. I needed my mom more than anything, I needed to hear her encouraging words.Walking back into my shop, I decided it was best to post a note that I would be closed until my new merchandise came in, whenever that might be. I sighed tomorrow was supposed to be a good day, but now I’ll be home sulking and trying to figure out my next move. Before leaving the store my cellphone rang. Looking down my heart dropped, it was Nick. I hadn't heard from him in a while, he mus
