chapter 4

Ava

I sat on the wet ground holding the lifeless body of my mate. The tears have dried and refused to come out anymore. I didn't know what to do anymore. The goal I had changed after I met my mate.

“ You fucking out sider. I have lost my family because of you,” I heard Max screaming. I knew someone was holding him down or else he would have killed me by now.

The lycan warrior arrived a little too late but I was glad that they saved the alpha Alexandre.

I caressed my mate's cheek and ran my fingers through his hair as a lone tear rolled down from my eyes. I should have let him mark me. I should have accepted him. I should have told him that I had always liked him, but it was too late now I thought looking at his face.

“ I will make them pay, zade. I swear,” I muttered under my breath. Whoever responsible for this Massacre will have to pay with their lives.

Looking up I saw the lycans have almost cleared everything. Then my eyes fell on Abigail and a heart wrenching scream left my mouth.

Why moon goddess? Why? Where have I gone wrong to go through this pain? I asked her in my head.

“ Ava,” Alexandre said in his hushed voice. Looking at him I saw him crouching down to my level before he patted my shoulder.

“ Let's go, Ava. It's too late now,” he said.

“ Alpha,” I sobbed , unable to form any words.

“ I know dear. But we both know that we can't bring them back no matter how much we grieve.”

“ If Abigail was still around she would have said the same thing, dear. I lost my son and my mate Ava. It pains me to even think that when I enter the pack house my mate won't be there to welcome me,” he said, his voice breaking at the end.

I can't let him break down. He has lost his world and yet he came to me.

“ What I am gonna do now, father,” I said. It was the second time I called him that. I always wanted to call Abigail mom as she always wanted but I couldn't do it out of shyness.

“ Ava, we have to go. You have to go,” he said, coming closer as he wiped my tears away.

“ I don't want to go anywhere,” I said, shaking my head.

“ No, baby you have to, the lycan king demanded your presence,” he said.

“ What?” I was stunned for a moment to hear his words. What on earth would a lycan king want to do with me?

“ You ruined everything,” Max said and looking over Alexandre’s shoulder I saw he had calmed down but there was a storm brewing in his eyes.

“ Max!!!” Alexander's voice booked and he went deadpan before a man took him away.

“ Baby girl, do you trust me?” He asked and nodded my head through tears.

“ Then listen to me. You have to go with him,” he said, grabbing both of my shoulders.

“ Alpha Alexandre. The king wants to know why you are delaying? And he asked me to tell you that he hopes that you didn't forget the cost of saving your pack,” the man said, i didn't look at him i could tell that he is a powerful one with the aura radiating from his body.

“ Please, let me have some time with my daughter,” Alexandre said. I didn't have to be told to understand what was going on. The look on Alexandre’s face was enough to know the situation.

The alpha king wants me in exchange for him saving the pack, so I repeated these words in my head.

“ I will meet him after the funeral,” I said letting him know my decision.

“ Ava,” Alexandre's voice broke as a year slipped from his eyes. Looking at him I smiled letting him know that he shouldn't feel guilty at all.

“ Father, I will do as you say but after the funeral,” I said and he nodded his head.

“ Miss,” someone said, standing next to me as he waited for me to let go of zade’s body. I looked at the man and then at zade finally kissing on his forehead I said my goodbye. I looked at the man who gently took Zade's body in his arms and carried him until I could no longer see him.

Alpha Alexandre helped me stand up and led me into the pack house.

“ Father, you should clean up,” I said, trying hard not to cry in front of him as he was already broken enough already.

“ Ava,” he called as soon as I ascended the stairs. I stopped and turned around to look at him.

“ Nothing, baby,” saying as he turned around and walked away towards his room.

I went to the guest room that I have been staying in and locked the door. Leaning against the wooden door I let my heart out.

After a few moments I straightened myself thinking about Abigail. She never would want to see me in this state. Then I remembered her words ‘no matter what happens don't look back’.

Her words were left unsaid. And now I have this feeling that she might have known something. She might have seen this coming and a lot of questions were swirling in my head to be answered.

After I calmed down I went straight into the bathroom. And striping from whatever left on my body I stepped into the shower. Standing under the warm water I closed my eyes, hoping that it might help my nerves to calm down as I yet to meet the lycan king.

After I was done I dried myself and went to the closet. I wore a black knee length dress and let my hair fall on my back. I made my way to the living room and out of the pack house where I saw a black SUV was standing right in front of the pack house.

“ Miss,” the chauffeur said, bowing his head.

“ Let me take you to the cemetery ground,” he said.

“ I can go by myself,” I said, walking past him at a fast pace.

The funeral ground wasn't far away and right now the least thing I want is any kind of favour from the lycan king. Who knows he might ask something in exchange of helping me.

Reaching the ground I saw alpha and max were already there with our remaining pack members as well as the lycans. I took my seat next to Alpha Alexandre.

I felt weird all of a sudden and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. That's when a cold wind blew making me shiver but I was hit by an irresistible scent. It was a mixture of sandalwood and fruity-floral.

“ Let's begin,” a man said in his deep and dangerous voice. I could feel that his eyes were on me but I didn't turn to look at him. He took his seat behind mine.

After the burial, we sat there quietly. I was looking at the picture on the tomb. It was Zade's. My heart kept breaking in thousands of pieces remembering that he lost his life only to save mine.

I clenched my jaw, balling my fists in anger. They will not receive an easy death, I promised them.

“ It's time,” the man spoke and I could feel that he stood up and walked back.

Alpha Alexandre started panicking as he stood up immediately.

“ Ava, my doll, if you don't want to go you don't have to. I promise I will find a way,” he said as he crouched down in front of me holding my hand like a caring father that he is.

“ I want to do this,” I said.

“ I want to move on and if I stay here I will not be able to do that,” I said in a low voice. Max sneered hearing my words.

“ Ava, the king….. he said that you….. you…..

“ What did he say?” I asked.

“ We have to leave,” a man said and I turned to look at him only to find out that it was the man from earlier who came to remind Alpha Alexandre about the deal. Alexandre nodded his head at him before he hugged me.

“ Ava, don't ever show your necklace to anyone. It was a blessing and many people are trying to find you. If anyone sees the necklace it wouldn't take any second guess that they will find you,” he whispered in my ear.

“ I know this isn't the way I had planned to send you but if you ever hear that I am no more, go to your house and find the painting of your mother,” he added. What did he mean by that? I am not going to lose him too, the pack will be torn to pieces.

“ What did you mean by that? No, I am not going anywhere,” I declared. And then I heard the loudest growl ever. It sounded like thunder rolling in the sky. I knew who it was without looking.

“ No!!!” I screamed when I felt a pair of arms around my waist pulling me away from Alexander.

This was the second time I saw him crying looking at me as he looked helpless. Max was clenching his jaws as he looked ready to fight but he didn't.

“ If you want to see them alive, stop fighting,” he said in his deep voice. And I stopped struggling in his firm and strong hold. A tear rolled down my cheek looking at the family that I had known after my parents.
