Chapter Eleven: Power Above Power

ELENA's POV

The twins remained in front of us the whole time and even when we had gotten to their house, they chose to play outside rather than come into the building with us.

Their mother, Rica did not seem bothered, instead she brought me inside and gave me a seat on the old cushion in the parlor while she excused herself to go get some medicines for my wound.

My eyes followed her as she walked up the stairs. Unconsciously, my eyes ran around the sitting room. There was no ceiling fan and no television. There were three cushion cues but they were so old. The one she told me was the only one amongst them that was manageable.

There were pictures on the wall, faces of two old people on them and no picture of her or her child. I quickly summarized that this house was not her own.

And she must have read my thoughts to reply to me exactly that.

“They are not my family. So don't be too bothered about that. They also don't live here anymore so there was a spare bed for you.”
