After bidding farewell to Alex, I felt a bit bored and uneasy. So, I went to the window, thinking maybe Devon needed more time for his work. Soon, he said, “Karen, let’s head home,” grabbing his coat from the chair. He opened the door, and I followed. Devon drove us out of the parking lot, and it got really quiet between us.

Looking out the window, the weather was nice, and a cool breeze hit my face. But Devon seemed focused.

“Devon, what are you thinking so deeply?” I asked.

“Nothing,” he replied in a rude tone. I started looking outside again.

After some time, he looked at me and asked, “Now what are you thinking? It must be a new idea to hurt me,” he said while looking at me in shock.

“No, why would I hurt you? I was thinking about Alex. How could his mother leave him? He is a small kid; he needed her,” I replied in a low voice.
