The Dinner

Kat clears her throat as she stares at the Hawkins mansion in front of her. Vincent Hawkins’ invitation was hard to refuse but she’s also tempted to know what he’s planning. She stares at her watch to see the time. It’s nearly 7 PM and dinner is about to begin.

She steps forward to introduce herself to the guard.

“I’m Katerina Wallis,” she states. “I think Mr. Hawkins is expecting me.”

The guard gives her a strange look before checking a monitor.

“Yes,” he finally says. “You’re scheduled to have dinner with the Hawkins family. This way.”

He ushers her to follow him. Kat pretends to be nervous and follows him to the main mansion. The place is nothing special to her; it’s smaller than her mansion and the style is too orthodox. It’s also dark, a bit too dark. She finds it hard to believe that Ryder is living here; he loathes to stay in the dark.

The guard leads her inside toward the living room. She sits on a sofa, patiently waiting. Checking her watch again, she turns the dial a little
