Three weeks later
Jackson was woken up early by his phone ringing loudly on his nightstand. “Dad it’s six-thirty in the morning, what is so important?” He grunted.
“Are you trying to sell your house?”
“I haven’t decided yet.”
“You need to cancel your flight this afternoon and we need to talk about this.”
“I haven’t seen Riley in three weeks, I’m not cancelling my flight.” He returned getting out of bed and making coffee, he knew where this conversation was going already.
“If you are so serious about this girl, why haven’t I met her yet?”
“Because I don’t want you to sleep with her.” Jackson shot back.
“Jackson, I didn’t know who she was.” His father’s voice softened.
“I know dad.”
“Cancel your flight.”
“No, we can
Jackson knew that Sam was already at the venue making sure everything was perfect and getting dressed. He paid for breakfast quickly and called a cab, rushing over there and texting Sam on the way. Sam was waiting outside the venue when the cab pulled up.“You didn’t tell Riley, did you?” Sam asked quickly.“I maybe got to see her for an hour, so no, you kicking Gerard out of the wedding behind your father’s back and replacing him with me did not come up.” Jackson answered.“Well, your tux is here and there is a tailor for any last minute changes that may need to be done.” Sam urged him towards the grooms room.“You’re not worried about Gerard trying to crash the wedding?” Jackson asked as he took his clothes off, pulling his tuxedo pants on.“Not really, all the body guards and the host know not to let him in.” Sam answered. “My dad is going to be pissed thou
Riley made it back to the brides room in time to see Mandy taking a shot off of the bottle. “How did he look?” Mandy asked. “I bet he looked really sexy in that tux.”“Yes, Mandy, He looked great.” Riley returned, trying to get her mind off of Jackson’s chest that was completely bare and all she could think of was how his muscles were bulging and barely able to be contained. He was shirtless when she walked in there, and to distracted to ask why he was in there she tried to keep her mind off of it. “Mandy, you’ll never get to see, if you don’t get dressed.”“I’ve been trying to take the bottle away from her since we got here.” Kasie stated.Kasie had been a close friend of theirs since Mandy became friends with Riley. Kasie was the main bartender at the club they would go to after Mandy got off of work, and was the one that convinced Riley that Sam and Mandy would be good togethe
Riley woke to her phone ringing at seven-thirty in the morning. “Good morning mother.” She whispered as she climbed out of bed, careful not to wake Jackson.“Good morning Riley, I need you to come to my office right away dear.” Her mother’s voice wasn’t as cheerful as it always was and Riley’s heart sank at the sound of it.“Now Riley!” She could hear her father yell in the background.“Alright, I just need to get dressed first and I will be right there.” She returned hanging up the phone. She grabbed the first decent outfit that she could find, still trying really hard not to wake Jackson as she slipped into the guest room to get dressed. She kissed Jackson before she left and headed to the elevator. Her mother’s office was on the first floor, close to where the hotel check in was. She was surprised to see Sam and Ronnie there also but before she could ask any questions papers
“I know, but don’t you think Jackson should have been the one to tell me about all of this.” She returned.Mandy brought over the drinks that were quickly delivered and sat down with them. Riley handed her the stack of papers she was bombarded with earlier.“Ry he was probably going to tell you, you two have only been dating for two months now. You can’t be mad because your obsessive ex beat him to it.” Sam defended. “Not everybody is like you, people have a past Riley.”“I know.” Riley answered, sipping off of her smoothie, deep in thought.“Loverboy is looking for you. What do you want me to tell him?” Sam asked, shaking his phone in the air.“Just have him come over.” Riley went back to her smoothie and deep thoughts. She was trying to come up with a decent reason for everything. She barely noticed that Sam got up to let Jackson in.“Dad wants us to
When Jackson got back to the penthouse it was quiet so he was sure that Riley was gone. He put the vase of dark purple and blue orchids on the table and loosened his tie. The loud banging on the door alerted him, but he already knew who it was.He knew that Gerard would be bothering them sometime soon with the argument they got into at the club. He didn't quite understand why Arthur had invited him to go the club with them. He wondered why Riley’s father was so worried about him being with Riley. He was shocked when Riley came out of the room in a camouflage bikini that covered less than her underwear does. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to him. “Don’t answer that.” He said as he glanced from her head to toes, extremely aroused by what she was wearing.“I didn’t know you were back yet.” She returned, staring at the door, which still had a loud pounding noise coming from it. “The girls and I were going to go swi
“Your father invited Gerard to our little get together.” Jackson answered as he pulled a t-shirt on. He left the room quickly.Riley quickly found her satin robe and covered herself, being pulled out of the euphoria she was in faster than she would have liked. She heard shouting, followed by a loud thud, so she rushed out of the room, just in time to see Gerard scrambling to get to his feet.“I already told you once that I will not let you talk about her like that.” Jackson said as he held out a hand to help Gerard up.The second Gerard found his footing he swung his fist toward Jackson. Jackson dodged quickly and Gerard’s fist hit the wall with a loud thud. Gerard pulled back his now swelling fist and shook it but was quickly knocked back down with another swing from Jackson.Riley screamed and ran in between the two, but quickly regretted as Gerard’s fist connected with her jaw. Before she could stand back up Jackson
“Samuel James?” The paramedic said as Sam answered his phone.“Speaking.” He answered.“There has been an accident, we need you to come to Mount Sinai hospital right away.”“What happened?”“You should bring your immediate family.” The paramedic hung up before he could ask any more questions. He jumped out of bed and got dressed, waking Mandy as he called his mother. By the time they got to the hospital Riley was being wheeled into an operating room. His mother was pulled away by a different doctor only to come back seconds later, crying her eyes out. “Sam, your father didn’t make it. They said he was dead on scene.” Erin ran into Sam’s arms. He calmed Mandy and Erin as much as he possibly could for about ten minutes, then pulled away and started trying to get a hold of Jackson. A dozen calls with no answer he stopped trying when the surgeon came out.“
He dialed Riley’s number one more time and when it went to voicemail again, he sent probably the millionth ‘I love you, I am so sorry’ text message he had sent her. He took another big long pull off of the vodka bottle before he decided to send Erin James a fax. It had all the details of the club he and Riley were working on, with the name Manhattan Passion written across the top. He figured if his relationship with Riley was really over the name of what they had started together should at least reflect a little on what they had. He decided he would send her one last message before he left her alone.‘Darlin’ I miss you and I can’t help but feel like you are mad at me for fighting with Gerard. I never meant for that to happen, but I couldn’t let him belittle you like that. I love you and I always will. You are the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me and the most amazing and beautiful woman on this planet. I love you with a
