CHAPTER EIGHTY-TWO : PEEKING INTO THE PAST

“I don’t understand, how is this possible?”, Rey asked.

Cersei maintained her gaze on Rey without even blinking.

”She isn’t lying”, Luna remarked. “How is this possible?”

”Sonia, your mother was my best friend. We grew up together and we got married into different noble families”, Cersei begun.

”You have been alive all this time and you have remained silent. You have been hiding here while the world around you burns”, Rey said in an accusatory tone as she tried to conceal her emotions.

The tension in the air was at fever pitch but Cersei remained fairly calm and stoic about the situation. She didn’t seem emotionally moved by the situation and it irritated Rey further.

”It wasn’t simple, turning my back on your mother and abandoning my son. It was the hardest thing I had ever done but it was necessary”, Cersei said as she poured herself a cup of tea and slowly dipped down the tea.

”Yet you did, Lucius hasn’t had it easy”, Rey said.

”Why?.... Why did you leave him?, what happened to the families?”, Luna asked l, she could tell that Rey was too shocked to speak and Luna decided to do most of the talking.

”It was your father’s idea”, Cersei begun.

”Our father?”, Rey asked.

“He was the head of the Volk family, an exceptional man who was able to lead a noble family from his teenage years. Alex Volk, a man who had the ability to peek into the future, a visionary “, Cersei said as she smiled. “My husband and the entire Blackthorn family committed everything to his belief, he believed in you all even before you knew anything”

”We never met him, and mum never spoke about him.”, Luna replied. “But what did he do?”

”It all began 24 years ago, The Volk family and the Blackthorn family had been closely related for a long time and had been keepers of the Sun and Moon magic. A mage from the Blackthorn familybwas killed in one of his missions and very quickly we detected the use of black magic and we begun to investigate. Soon however, the black magic Was beginning to spread and we were left clueless on what to do”, Cersei said. “So we sought after the keeper of the realm, that one person who had answers to questions that are shrouded in mystery, the lady of the Forest”

”Seraphina”, Rey said.

Cersei nodded her head, “before we found her she was regarded as a fairy tale, some night time folklore that people had long forgotten. But she gave us answers and directions but just like thought we were way in above our heads. The Lycans were too strong and too powerful and their emissaries were soaked in black magic. One by one we lost our best warriors and soon noble family members were dropping like flies”

Cersei kept her cup on the table and walked towards the shelf where she glanced through the book in search of a particluar book and as her hand glanced through the shelf, she found a book and gently pulled it out of the shelf.

”Luke, my husband had encountered a lycan and was badly injured although he was the only survivor from the ordeal, he was able to obtain vital information and insight into the plans of the Lycans. He and Alex decided to come up with a plan to save the realm, one which would hinge on the children of the noble families and one which would mean entrusting the coming generation with so much faith”, Cersei said.

Rey continued to listen intently as she periodically glanced at Luna, suddenly the two women noticed that Cersei had kept quiet. Rey and Luna watched as tears begun to stream down Cersei’s face.

”We had to sacrifice it all, the families of the nobles decided to put up a last stand while sending away their young masters and heirs. They had decided to protect their young ones, a promise that the noble families would return because they knew that they couldn’t beat the alphas”, Cersei continued.

”There was no mention of any of this in any record from the family ruins and the royal court”, Rey asserted.

”Damnatio Memoriae”, Cersei replied.

”Why?..., the sacrifice of so many people was just forgotten”, Rey said as she frowned, obviously trying to fight back her tears.

”Don’t you get?, So that you all may survive. So that the younger generation will stand a chance of survival and succeed where we failed”, Cersei replies.

”What happened to our father?”, Luna asked.

”He and Luke led what was left of the noble families warriors into a last stand battle with the Lycans and I never saw either of them again”, Cersei replied.

”So that is why the families suddenly and rapidly disappeared “, Rey said as tears escaped her and eyes.

”The two men believed that the younger generation had the potential of something greater and Alex spoke of a prophecy but he never went into detail. He just believed so much in all of you that he charged every other family to make that sacrifice and ensure the survival of their heirs. The ladies of the house were scattered all over the realm and I was sent here while Lucius was taken by my chief maiden, Sonia insisted that she remained with you another since you were both still babies and we decided to burn all the records and everything that could make it possible for the Lycans to track us”, Cersei added.

”It makes more sense now, the picture is alot clearer to me now”, Rey said.

”This must have been so difficult for all of you, having to be separated from your loved ones and children like that”, Luna said.

Cersei begun crying as she always suddenly overwhelmed with emotions: “My boy, I had to leave my boy. My one and only boy. I watched my husband match into certain death and I was helpless but at least I hoped that one day I would see my boy again. Then the two of you show up. “

The two women walked up to Cersei and comforted her as they hugged each other.

”My boy, what kind of person is he?”, Cersei asked.
