Chapter 88

Alisha:

“Alisha?!” Mischa yelled my name, as I must have let out pained groan.

“My babies…” it began to dawn on me that I was now in labour, just like Simon’s book had said. “They’re coming.”

I don’t know much of what happened after that. I recall moments when the tent was filled with women trying to coax me to push. I felt the sweat on my brow being wiped my Mischa’s steady hand. I felt pain coursing through my body as I kept on pushing, following the primal instinct I had within me.

I thought of Derek; I thought of the family I always wanted. I longed to hold the two babies I was blessed with and see them with my own two eyes. I wanted to care for them and make their lives a lot better than mine had been.

At some point I must have blacked out, because the next thing I knew was the cry of my babies. Two of them.

My vision focused as soon as I heard Mischa saying, “Ssh. Your mom is asleep.”

“Misch,” it felt like there was a lump in my throat as I reached for her.
