Chapter 9

Becca's POV

My stomach clenched as I stood in front of him, forced to swallow the bitter pill of his presence. His hand reached out towards mine, a smirk playing on his lips. I could feel the heat of anger rising within me, but I refused to give him the satisfaction he wanted. Today, I would not succumb to his games. With a slow and deliberate movement, my hand met his in a show of false civility. The touch was like ice against fire, sending shivers down my spine. But I held steady, determined not to let him see how much he affected me.

As Bas pulled me closer, our bodies swaying to the rhythm of the music, I couldn't escape the intense gaze of his gray eyes. It was as if he was trying to read my thoughts, searching for any signs of vulnerability. But I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. I squared my shoulders and met his gaze head-on, a defiant spark flickering within me.

"See you've been busy " he said as he stared at Max
