FIFTY SIX

“Jane...”

Her head jerked up from the car’s window. “Sorry,” she replied grimly and wiped away yet another tear that had escaped her eye. Little Timmy shifted slightly in her arms and fell back to sleep once more, unaware of the turmoil that was eating his young mother away. Jane hated herself there and then. Why couldn’t she defend herself back there? Why didn’t Daniel believe her?  And why was he kissing Roxanne? What was she to him anyway? A plaything?

“We’re here,” Wayne brought his car to a halt and Jane looked out the window of his Bugatti to see a beautiful townhouse with soft orange lights illuminating its roman carved pillars and ivy plants that crawled up its pristine white walls.
