52 Don't Ruin The Mood

Chris took his seat beside me before standing up again. He carried the cake out of the paper box and put the box on the table, farther away from us.

I stared at the cake in front of me before I heard his soft, masculine voice once again.

"Happy birthday," he said again and I turned to look at him.

"Thank you," I replied with misty eyes.

I blinked and a bead of tear fell from my left eye.

"Why are you crying?" Chris asked before reaching out to clean the tear that had fallen.

"I can't believe that I forgot," I admitted and he smiled.

"I am happy you did," he replied and I stared at him in confusion.

"What?" I asked back and he said it again.

"I am happy you forgot about your birthday," he spelled out again and I took in a deep breath through my mouth.

"Why?"

"If you had remembered, then all of my surprises would have been ruined," he said and I bent my head to the side a bit in support.

"Yeah, it would ruin it all," I replied with a short laugh and Chris chuckled.
