"Which jungle?"
"According to my calculations... California."
"California?! That's so far away from home." I looked around at the uninhabited place as a new kind of fear started settling in my heart. Despite the beauty it held, the creepiness crawled into my mind like a spiraling serpent. I had seen enough news of hikers getting lost and found dead in the forests. Oh God! What have I gotten ourselves into?
Hunter pulled down the parachute stuck in the tree that welcomed me so gently and turned it into a bright red arrow sign in the ground. Then he started marching ahead, not giving me a glance.
"Wait for me!" Jumping back to my feet I ran after him. "If Chris and the crew did the same we should find them here somewhere, right?"
Silence.
"How're we going to get out of here?"
A bird somewhere from above twe

What could a gang of criminals do in a jungle? And why would they kill a forest ranger?Perhaps, they arranged a secret meeting in the middle of the jungle so no eye of law could cast a judging look at them, but unfortunately, one did and shot dead.Yeah, that must be the case."Can you not walk faster?"His question ignited a fire in me. I stopped and stomped on the ground crushing some poor twig fella. "Walk faster? I can't even walk anymore. Let them kill me. I don't care! I'm thirsty, I'm hungry. I'm-" Running a finger over my forehead I jerked off the sweat. "Sweaty." Taking two steps forward I hugged the recumbent tree beside that seemed so comfy just like my mother's welcoming lap. "I can't walk no more..." I cried. An agitated sigh reached my ear followed by heavy footsteps, and the next thing I knew I w
"What?" I went rigid."Come on! What are you waiting for?"Turning around he began running pulling me along with him, and I let him for my mind was still busy processing the new outrageous information just delivered. My head tilted over my shoulder for a confirmation look, and a gasp left my mouth. The one spiral of black smoke converted into a dozen more in a matter of moments. Was it a joke of fate or was death indeed closing in on us I had no idea. All I knew was that I didn't wanna die this way, I didn't want him to die because of my fault. My hand around his tightened while my pace quickened matching his perfectly. All the guilt, exhaustion, thirst and hunger was long forgotten, and only one thing circled around my head. Survival. Just as it did with all those lives present in the jungle. The happy chirping of the morning birds turned into pure shrieks, and the wild flapping of their wings sc
Sweet nightmare; that's what it felt like in his embrace while the forest around us burned. After what felt like years did the torturing sounds and heat came to a cease. I opened my eyes to see his piercing eyes watching me."Are you ok-" a cough emitted from his throat."Y-Yeah." I nodded, my brows creasing."I'm fine," he dismissed and got up.My eyes fell on the scene around as I slowly sat up taking off the hanky from my face, the pungent smell still strong in the air, and goosebumps rose all over my body. It seemed like a show straight from a horror movie. The air was covered with gray mist, the trees stripped off every bit of leaves and the ground charred with scintilla of flames still visible in places. The forest was bared off all the hues and only two colors remained.Charcoal black and gray of the ashes."Come on. W
My eyes fluttered open only to shut back due to the sharp brightness of the room. The pungent smell of hospital disinfect invaded my nostrils while the beep beep sound that you often hear in hospitals that indicates you are alive reached my ears.Where am I?I slowly opened them back, squinting in an attempt to sharpen the blurred images before me. I glanced around and took in the deserted area of blue and white schemed hospital bedroom. What was I doing here? I closed my eyes trying to remember what had exactly happened, but my head was all blank.I sat up, and pain jolted throughout my whole body as my head spun making me giddy. I drew my hand up clutching my head, and the IV attached to it caught my eyes. Frowning I pulled at it."No no no, dear. Don't do that." A hand grabbed mine moving it off of the apparatus gently.
Unknown's POV~My heels clicked against the marble floor as I stomped towards the glass table, my hands curled into fists and nose flaring. The man sat behind it had a glass of red wine in his hand he was sipping from, his physiognomy suspiciously bright. I slammed my fist on the table. "What the fuck have you done?"He didn't even flinch, rather his lips curved into a devilish smile as he extended the glass forward. "Want some?"The boiling blood running through my veins reached my head, and my teeth gritted. "Fucking answer me!"Shaking his head he chugged down the red liquid and began pouring some more. "Be happy for your husband's achievement, babygirl.""No! You've achieved nothing!" I directed my gaze at the picture in my phone and muttered to myself, "He is okay. I know he is... He has to be.""Why d
Every storm in your life is followed by a rainbow. That indeed was true. The storm in my life was gone, and the rainbow was brighter than ever. The rest of the journey went pretty smooth, and the moment I set foot in New York I was engulfed with a dozen hugs at once, though it was just my gang of six musketeers."My baby, are you alright?" Mother had tears in her eyes and smile in her lips."Of course, she is, Sof. She's my strong Koala bear." Father kissed on my forehead, his unshed tears sparkling in the sunlight."Would it be too much to expect the jungle moments to be something like in Blue Lagoon?" Karen asked and then let out a chuckle embracing me. "I'm glad you're back in one piece, darling."Anna slapped at the back of my head. "That's for giving me the frights." Then she and Beth hugged me so tight I h
My clutch on the handle loosened as my brows creased. Huh?"It seems you have forgotten why you got married to the girl," the voice spoke again."No, father. You never let me forget," Hunter's voice was cold.Father? Mr. Bryan King? My frown deepened even more as my heart thudded against my chest."I have to, son. It is my duty. I know how you never wished to get married.""Yet you made me!" Hunter snapped."If that old hag didn't make such a ridiculous rule to be married to be a part of the Elite board, I'd never force you. Or else... how would you be able to take over the Elite board's throne?"My eyes widened as I breathed heavy. What were they even talking about?"Since our purpose has been attained this fake matrimony can be called off. No need for anyone to put up with the act an
A frown made its way into my forehead. I knew that voice. Who...Stepping closer the person got down to my level, and rays of light shone on his physiognomy."C-Christian?""Oh God! What happened to you, Ember?" He scanned over me, shock and worry visible in his eyes.I stayed silent not knowing what I should tell."Did... Hunter do something?"I looked down as an ache shot through my heart at hearing that name."Alright, alright. We can have this conversation later. Let's take you home first. You might get sick." He extended his hands."I-I don't wanna go t-ther-" a fit of coughing left my mouth as my throat felt soared. He pondered for a second. "Okay, then you can stay in my house. Come on!"Holding my arms he
