Chapter 2: The Thomson Family

The middle-aged man then told her about the story of her birth.

It goes on like this.

Her mother worked as one of the housekeepers of the Thomson family and was assigned to work in the building where her supposed father was staying. Since her mother was from the countryside and was too passionate to climb in the social ladder, she seduced the Young Master -her father- and got pregnant for one night.

However, before her mother had a chance to tell the world that she was carrying the child of the Young Master of the Thomson family, she had learned that the Young Master had been engaged and was about to marry his fiancée.

What made her mother more frightened was the stories that she had heard that the fiancée's family was quite ruthless. If they learned that she was carrying a bastard child, something might happen to her and she might lose her life.

So to give birth peacefully, Suzie's mother left the Thomson family and went to her hometown to give birth to her.

But Suzie's mother died after giving birth to Suzie, thus her mother's great plan to come back to the Thomson family after successfully giving birth to Suzie went to outer space.

Suzie was in a daze.

Well, that was unexpected and a bit cliche. She had asked her grandma about her father when she was young but her grandma just answered casually with a straw grass in her mouth.

"Your father? That is a nameless bastard who could not keep his willy. Why? Want to look for him? That bastard might not even know you, you'll just embarrass yourself."

So Suzie's image of her father was a scumbag no better than a rapist. She had long ago given up the thought of her father showing up.

But now her father showed up... and with an unbelievable story and identity at that.

Suzie doesn't know what to feel. Should she be angry? Shock? Resent them? Or be happy?

She had long lost the hope of meeting any family member. After all, she was already old enough to survive on her own and build her own family.

After being surprised, Suzie took a closer look at this 'father'. The image of the father in her mind and this man was a bit a far. Then the second she did was to be suspicious.

"How would I believe you?"

The middle-aged man was patient. He took out some documents from the briefcase. "These are the evidences that your mother worked in my family before. As for the other proof, we could have a DNA test. However, my daughter, I am confident that you are my kin."

Suzie blinked.

The middle-aged man then told her about their Thomson family.

According to him, the Thomson family belonged to the upper-class families and they give importance to their bloodline. So even though she was a bastard child, once she was proven to be a child of the Thomson family, she would be accepted in the family and receive her share of the inheritance.

The middle-aged man who called himself as Suzie's father was telling her the profits of being a member of the Thomson family. It was all good to be true. Suzie even have a second thoughts that this so-called father might just be scamming her.

A lot of thoughts and questions came to Suzie's mind. If what this middle-aged man said was indeed true, then why this so-called father decided to find her? Why he wants her back after all these years?

But their conversation came to a halt when the police arrived.

Ah, right. She forgot that she had called the police.

Since she was cautious in nature, she only allowed them to take a hair of hers with the police around. The middle-aged man said that it would take a day or two and that he would come back again.

The story might be true or a lie. She could only confirm the truth if she faced this strange situation head-on. What would happen afterward would be faced when the time comes.

That was Suzie's motto in life. Just face any problem head-on and worry the problem that comes tomorrow for tomorrow.

...

However, that problem came too soon.

The middle-aged man came back again the next day, wishing to form a bond with her.

Actually, Suzie won't mind it. She was no longer a teenager that would complain and blame her so-called father for being absent for years.

She was mature enough to go along with the flow.

But!

Today was her precious weekend!

It was only the day when she could rest and be lazy however she wants after slaving to work in her three jobs!

She obviously doesn't want to share this precious day with a random middle-aged man who claimed to be her father.

But the middle-aged man threw a sweet bone at her.

"The DNA result will come out later. While we are waiting for it, I want to shop with you and buy you clothes. I could see that your clothes are kind of worn out."

Suzie: "!"

Of course, she loved anything that was free! It had been ages ago since she bought a new pair of clothes.

Suzie was still kind of suspicious but she was willing to take the risk. If this man was what he really said he was, then she would not mind forming a bond with him. If he was willing to pay her debts and buy her a house, it was even better, and might even call him 'father'!

Suzie had been at the bottom and had suffered poverty since childhood. She knew where to be emotional or be rational. The most important was to be principled in whatever kind of place she was in life.

....

With the sweet bone thrown at her, Suzie took a bite of it.

And the so-called father did not disappoint her. He brought her to the high-end clothing boutiques.

The price of one set of clothes was dazzling. Suzie was afraid to touch even one of them. But her so-called father just said to choose whatever she wants. So she did not shy away and choose one.

The so-called father just let her wear the new clothes and treat her to a five-star restaurant next. Suzie was dizzy seeing the rows of utensils. She ate the food she did not know the name of and enjoyed it. She kinda half believed now that this middle-aged man was indeed rich and from a wealthy family.

It was evening when the so-called father wanted to bring her to the Thomson family.

"The other family members are waiting for you. They are excited to meet you." The so-called father, Mr. George Thomson, said to her.

Suzie had already accepted the gifts (clothes) and ate with this so-called father. It would be too rude to reject it.

So she nodded and they left for the Thomson family's mansion.
