Chapter 23

While waiting for Cannon, Elaine fell asleep on the couch and opened her eyes with a jerk at some point. She looked at the entrance and then Cannon's room. It was still closed.

She looked at the wall clock in the living room and mumbled, "Isn't Cannon back yet?"

A growling sound from her stomach got into her hearing making her remembered that she was hungry.

She snapped at herself, "Just keep quiet. Until Cannon gets back.." her other words dried down when her gaze fell on Cannon.

He was standing near the dining table, staring at her with a confused look.

She smiled at him and walked near, "Oh, you are back already! Good. You know you shouldn't work till this late. It's not good for your health."

So, she was waiting for me! Why?

Cannon thought to himself but didn't utter anything.

Elaine glanced at the food, "Must have gotten cold by now. Give me a few minutes, I am heating this up."

As Elaine walked to get the food to heat them up, Cannon spoke up, "No need." and took his seat.
