Chapter 30

Mary Redferne

As I drifted off, the familiar embrace of sleep beckoning me closer, I felt a sudden weightlessness envelop me. It was as though gravity had abandoned its hold on me, allowing me to float effortlessly in the air.

Opening my eyes, I was met with the sight of Joseph's towering figure, his muscular arms cradling me with ease. His silhouette loomed large in the darkness, as he carried me off the couch.

What the damn hell?

“You are very stubborn.” His voice, rough yet soothing, shattered the silence, sending jolts of awareness coursing through me. I swallowed nervously as he gently lowered me onto the left side of the bed.

But as I nestled into the softness of the mattress, I wondered how I was going to manage to sleep on the couch through the night.

"Joseph, I won't let you sleep on the couch or the floor," I insisted firmly, my hands reaching out to grasp his neck in defiance.

A hot chuckle escaped his lips, his amusement noticeable in the darkness. "Yeah, I gathered that,"
