Chapter 57: LUCIEN

Grandfather was more longwinded than usual. It's been hours since I left her and I was nervous about her being on her own. I hadn't had time to teach her about our ways before having to leave her so soon after we arrived.

For the fifth or sixth time I reassured myself that she should be fine and that I was worrying for nothing. Everyone here knows she's mine no one would dare cross her. All they need to see is my mark on her neck and that should be enough to keep them at a distance.

But still I didn't feel settled, not until I get back to her. I felt guilt over the fact that I'd brought her away from everything and everyone she knew, only to leave her alone our first day here.

But isn't it better that she learns now that things in the kingdom won't be the same as they had been on earth? That I wouldn't be able to spend my every waking moment with her? I thought so, but it did nothing to ease the pain of guilt in my gut.
