"I don't get it," I said, reaching out for my baby, but Veem kept moving away from me.

"What's confusing you? You're my daughter, and you belong with the frosters. You should come live with us," Veem gave me a direct look, as if she thought I was being foolish in multiple ways.

"But I can't. I made a promise to them," I gestured vaguely, trying to emphasize my point.

"You just admitted they treated you horribly," Veem stated, her voice tinged with frustration. "You told me I left you to suffer with these people. But now that I'm offering you support, you want to go back?"

Veem scoffed and blinked as if she were insinuating something.

"They're treating me much better now," I responded straightforwardly. "I want my daughter to stay with them so she doesn't become a weresin."

My bluntness caused a shift in the expressions of Veem's people. They exchanged glances, as if they had objections in mind.

"Why would you say that? Why would you want to stop her from being herself?"
