Chapter 6: The Apocalypse I

Lynx froze upon hearing the voice of the figure, his hand hanging in the air. Two guards were standing beside the figure with neutral expressions on their faces.

The figure looked at Lynx. "What do you think you are doing, Lynx?" he asked, his voice calm but firm.

The unexpected appearance of the man broke the tension in the hall, and everybody turned to look at him. He was tall and commanding, and his eyes were filled with rage.

Lynx went blank as the man asked him the question. He put down his hand, his heart racing in his chest. He turned to face the man, and he was shocked. He wasn't expecting him at all.

"I am looking for the person who tried to poison my Luna," Lynx managed to speak.

The commanding man is Uncle Toni, Lynx's uncle. He walked to Isabella, who was lying down helplessly on the floor, and gently helped her to stand up. He looked at her with concern. "Are you alright?" he asked in a gentle tone.

Isabella nodded while still shaking. Uncle Toni turned to Lynx with a changed expression on his face. "Do you realize how hurtful your actions are to this young lady?" he said with a sharp voice.

Lynx hesitated for a minute, his heart still pounding in his chest. He moved forward and hugged his uncle. "What an unexpected visit, uncle," he said, his voice breaking.

Uncle Toni held him close and patted him gently on the back. "It's alright," he said. "I just decided to pay you a surprise visit because it's been a long time since I saw you."

"Lynx, you have to be more careful and learn to control yourself, okay? You don't have to let them hate you. As the Alpha, their well-being should be your responsibility because they are like family to you, and you have to treat them as such," Uncle Toni said.

"Lynx, I can see that you are trying to solve an issue right now, but I need to talk to you about a very important matter," Uncle Toni said, his voice very serious.

Lynx hesitated for a second; he didn't want to leave the ongoing matter unsettled. However, he knew he had to attend to his uncle because Uncle Toni would not back down. He then nodded, albeit with a confused face.

Lynx led the way to his office, and Uncle Toni followed him. Different thoughts were running through Lynx's mind. What could be so important that his uncle suddenly paid him an unexpected visit?

"Everybody, go back to your duties," Lynx ordered. "I will come back to settle this matter once I'm done talking with my uncle."

Everybody left the hall, their footsteps echoing down the corridor.

Lynx and Uncle Toni locked eyes in Lynx's office. "I still don't understand why someone would try to kill your Luna," Uncle Toni began, breaking the awkward silence.

"I'm as confused as you are. That's why I am desperate to find the person," Lynx tried to explain, his words spilling out very fast. "All of them refused to speak up, that's why I got frustrated, and I lost control of myself."

Uncle Toni listened carefully to Lynx, and he let out a deep breath when Lynx finished talking. "I understand your plight, but you should not let your emotions get the better of you in every situation you find yourself. It's not acceptable to hit a woman like that," Uncle Toni tried to explain.

"Moreover, why don't you inform your family that you have found your mate? You know everyone of us will be happy for you, so why did you keep it a secret?" Uncle Toni asked.

"Uncle Toni, it's my life," Lynx replied, his voice firm. "I don't want anybody putting their mouth in my business. I'm old enough to make my decisions and I can decide what I want for myself."

Uncle Toni raised his eyebrows. "Hmmm…well, of course, you are right, but your family loves you very much, and everybody wishes you well and wants the best for you. You know every one of us will be willing to help, especially in situations like this," Uncle Toni replied.

Lynx let out a sigh, "Yes, I know, but I just want some space to figure out myself. I hope you understand me, Uncle," Lynx said.

"Yes, I can understand you," Uncle Toni replied, nodding his head.

"Lynx, I know this is a trying time for you and your Luna, but I want you to hear me out," Uncle Toni said urgently. "There is something that you need to realize."

Lynx's impatience was clear, "I'm sorry, Uncle, we need to talk about whatever we want to talk about. I need to go and check on my wife and be sure that the baby is still safe because she is pregnant already," Lynx said.

Uncle Toni's eyes widened in shock when he heard what Lynx had said. "Do you really mean that your wife is pregnant?" Uncle Toni asked, his voice full of surprise.

Lynx nodded with a faint smile on his lips. "Yes, we just found out recently that she is pregnant. I'm happy about that, and I pray that the moon goddess gives me a male child, but then…" his voice trailed off, the reality of what had happened earlier striking once again.

Uncle Toni stood up from where he was sitting, pacing back and forth, full of different thoughts. He was clearly disturbed about what he had just heard. "Lynx, I'm so sorry, that's why I am here," he said. "I should have seen the signs if I had paid more attention."

"Uncle, what are you talking about?" Lynx asked, his voice full of worry this time. "What signs?" he asked again.

Uncle Toni faced Lynx, looking troubled. "There were things that have been out of place," he said.

"Listen Lynx, some years ago, you were cursed by the moon goddess," Uncle Toni began, his voice filled with regret. "The moon goddess took away your ability to have an heir, which means you cannot reproduce."

Lynx's eyes widened in shock. "What!" he lamented, his voice barely above a whisper. "How can that be possible, Uncle?"

"I know it's hard to believe, but the curse was due to the atrocity that you committed in the past," Uncle Toni said, his voice full of sadness.

Lynx stood there speechless. He never thought that something like that would ever be possible. He had heard many stories about cursed Alphas, and here he is, a cursed Alpha.

He had always thought of himself highly, as a magnificent Alpha, not someone who could be the target of a curse.

"I can't understand, uncle," he said, his voice shaking. "Why would I be the target of a curse? Why would the moon goddess do that? What did I do to deserve a curse?" Lynx asked questions upon questions.
