#Chapter 19 Pushed Too Far

 I found myself grappling with a mix of emotions. The regret in Nicholas’ voice after he had tasted the pie was obvious, but their continually awful treatment of me weighed heavily on my mind. 

I couldn't help but wonder why they didn't show their remorse openly, especially when I knew that Nicholas had retrieved and enjoyed the pie. 

Even though I’d heard him say it was the best thing he’d ever eaten, he refused to say as such to me. Such contradictions left me feeling perplexed and questioning their true intentions.
