Ryker stayed true to his word and turned up around the same time as dinner to eat with us and help put Roxi to bed afterward.

Even still, I found myself confused by the noticeable scent of earth that clung to his tanned skin when he arrived in spite of the fresh soap I could detect layered over it. 

He had not mentioned what the task was he had to complete with the others earlier when dropping me off at the rec center, but I will confess his fragrance after the fact left me intrigued. 

Most of the conversation over dinner centered on the warriors who were scheduled to arrive sometime tomorrow.

Nevertheless, I could not help but observe Mari did not provide any input about the matter. It was not entirely uncommon for her to remain removed from the discussion, but I wondered periodically throughout the night if there was not another reason behind her silence.
