Quinn

Troy was quiet. His aura was still the same misty-grey colour, and his skin had gone a strange kind of ashy-white that reminded me of one of my teachers. The day before he had the heart attack that killed him, he looked that way.

Troy listlessly pushed his food around on his plate, barely registering the world around him.

Doctor Jacobs’s death was far worse than either of us expected, and Troy took it very hard. The man would not die. He clung to life like a nit clung to hair.

Every time we thought that this was it, that surely the doctor couldn’t still be alive, he’d start screaming again.

It wasn’t until the silver finally ate away his heart and lungs that he mercifully died.

The wolves enjoyed the display of brutality, and when Mason refused to die, they whipped themselves into a frenzy of bloodlust. They whooped and hollered while they tore at their clothes like spectators at a gladiator fight.

“Are you okay?” I asked my mate.

He shook his head and pushed his plate
