Cara’s mood was spoiled last night and she avoided Marcus, going straight to sleep while he was in his studio. However, since the moment she woke up, the breathtaking views from the master bedroom uplifted her mood immensely. Freshening up, she walked out in search of Marcus who sat sipping coffee on the open deck outside.
“Good morning, baby. Did you sleep well?” he asked, patting the chair next to him. Cara sat down with her coffee and gazed into his beautiful eyes.
“Good morning, Marcus. Yes, I slept so well that I didn’t know when you joined me.” Marcus smiled and shook his head.
“I didn’t.” Cara gaped at him, looking confused.
“What? Didn’t you sleep last night?” she asked, fee
It had been a week since Cara and Marcus returned to his Southampton home from their trip. After spending a day with her siblings, Cara felt rejuvenated enough to start college. The last few days, she had settled down to a nice routine that suited Marcus as well. The classes at Suffolk Community College were very enjoyable and with her talent, in the field, she picked up more than her batch mates could.“I’m glad that you are picking up so well. I completed the 6th painting last night. We will start with the seventh when you return from college.”Cara nodded and quickly wrapped up the work. “Lunch is made, Marcus. Just warm and eat if you’re hungry.”Marcus caught her and kissed her mouth passionately. “You know that I hate eating alone. I’ll wait for you t
“Why can’t I?” Marcus asked, looking a little hurt at her question. He wanted to confess to her that this wasn’t about the work, it was just that he couldn’t stay away from her, he couldn’t sleep without her, he couldn’t live without her. The last two days, despite being annoyed with her, he had climbed into the bed with her when she was in deep sleep. She was like a drug he was addicted to.Cara searched his eyes and saw the emotional upheaval reflected in them. “I just want you to be with you, mia Cara. Let’s go together, please.” Cara sighed and nodded, making his eyes brighten with happiness. He leaned in and claimed her mouth in a passionate kiss, a kiss that he had been dying for in the last two days. He sighed into the kiss, thankful they could patch up after their first fight!Cara
Cara sighed for the millionth time as she completed her work for the day. With Marcus drowned in his work, she knew that he would complete the series soon. The finishing touches shouldn’t take long. Completing all her work, she dragged herself to bed knowing Marcus would work till late in the night. She knew all along that this wasn’t forever yet she couldn’t stop her heart from bleeding with dejection. Will this be the last time they will meet? Will he go away to New York forever?‘No Cara, you have to be stronger than this. You’re a music artist. You cannot be an art model forever!’ chided her inner self. She sucked in a deep breath and closed her eyes. It was true. She had a long struggle ahead of her in her chosen field. She needed to make it big but first, she needed work in her field to provide for
Cara reached home in the afternoon, after fixing her appearance properly. She didn’t want her family to know anything about what she was going through. The door opened and Vera squealed with delight seeing her at the doorstep along with all her luggage.“Aunt Maggie, Cara has come home. Yay, I’m so happy,” said Vera, helping her with the luggage. Soon the twins came out excitedly to help. Cara smiled at their enthusiasm, hugging her little family closer. One year she had been away from them but not anymore, she was back to where she belonged.A beaming aunt Maggie came out of the kitchen and opened her arms out to her. “I’m so happy to see you, Cara,” she said, hugging her tightly. Cara’s throat choked with emotions she couldn’t restrain any longer and hot tears pooled into her eyes.
For the next two weeks, Marcus was busy renovating his penthouse for Cara. He wanted to start afresh and remodeled the place to give him a happy and positive vibe. His mom had been calling him non-stop but he didn’t find time for a visit. A feeling of dread engulfed him every time his mom called. The urgency didn’t sit well with him since his mom wasn’t keen on his wedding with Cara. Then what was she up to? He didn’t have any wish to ponder over it much.Cara returned home feeling disappointed and upset. Her college had been sending her to reputed places for internships but luck didn’t favor her at all. Despite all her efforts, even after three weeks, she was back at square one, heartbroken and jobless.“Cheer up, dear. It’s just a difficult phase. Take it easy. You still have money in your account to fall back u
Cara was exceptionally quiet all the way to Marcus’s apartment. She couldn’t drive away the strange sense of dread that crept into her mind every time she thought of the uncertainties that lay ahead of her. Would she collide with Marcus’s mom again? Would she insult her again? Was this what she wanted in life?“Are you having second thoughts?” asked Marcus noting the frown that marred her face. In the short span of a few weeks, she seemed to have forgotten the magic they shared together. He needed to fix that first, he needed to rekindle that magic again. Cara shook her head slowly, unable to tell him that she was dreading meeting his mom.“No, why should I? Should we start working tomorrow? You have to guide me since this isn’t my forte.” She tried to divert his attention away from herself.
Cara’s words pierced Marcus’s heart and he started to repent his reckless ways. Although it had been over a year since he had stopped sleeping around, he knew that this would haunt him forever. Returning to New York brought him out of the blissful and happy bubble he was living in, compelling him to face the harsh reality of his life. He craved to rekindle the fire that he and Cara shared before. How can three weeks of separation turn his life upside down? He longed to return to his Southampton beach home, back to those carefree and blissful days, detached from everyone. He watched Cara’s stiff and hurt posture as she stood farther away from him, aloof, angry, and hating his presence totally. He wished he could convince her somehow that this is how his life is, dull, dismal, and hopeless. They reached his penthouse and Cara looked around disinterestedly, not wanting to stay here even for
Marcus’s phone again buzzed with an incoming call from his mom but he just shoved it into his pocket. “Is anything wrong?” asked Cara as they sat on his terrace. It was late and they were planning to retire for the night. Marcus looked a little uncomfortable as he was unable to explain to her what exactly was wrong. He couldn’t tell her yet that he wanted to marry her while his mom was trying to object to his decision. It would scare her away. He had to take this slow and deal with it wisely.“It’s no big deal. I’ll talk to her when I’m free,” he said with a smile, getting up and pulling her to her feet.Cara didn’t prod further and they walked into his bedroom. “Now comes my favorite part!” exclaimed Marcus pulling her to the bed. They lay side by side while Marcus gazed at her
