CHAPTER 40

Anna's sudden exclamation made Mikayla and Paul jump. Even Cael was slightly startled.

Paul Kosher whirled on Anna. "Excuse me, miss. I wasn't speaking to you!"

"In this day and age, a man should know that no means no," she bit out.

Their exchange was starting to draw attention from nearby tables so Mikayla had to step in.

"It's okay, Anna. I'll handle it. Mr Kosher," she said politely, "while I appreciate your kind offer, I'm afraid my answer is still no."

He scoffed. "You don't know what you're missing out on. It's not every day that a man like me takes an interest in a woman like you."

Mikayla bristled. A woman like her? What did that mean.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a card.

"If you change your mind, give me a call," he declared and tossed the card at her. It fell harmlessly on the table.

Mikayla saw Cael begin to get up, a deadly and terrifying look on his face.

She jumped up and stopped him from standing by putting a hand on his shoulder. He looked at her with
