Kimberly was literally exhausted by the time her shift was over but what kept her going was the fact that Ian was returning that day and she was the one to go pick him up from the Naval Base which was an hour and a half's drive from the hospital.
Staring at the letter of leave of absence in her hands, she couldn’t help but smile to herself. She would have her fiancé all to herself for the next two weeks, without having to worry about anything as regards to her work. Just the thought of having her fiancé back after more than half a year of being apart made her smile grow wider. She felt like squealing like a teenager but held herself back so she doesn’t attract some unwanted attention to herself.
She decided not to waste any more time daydreaming about Ian and tidy her desk since her shift was already over and she had a long drive ahead of her. Once she was done tidying her desk, she left her office.
“Hey, Kim?” a colleague of hers called her attention.
It was Dr. Kingston, a fellow neurosurgeon like herself but a more experienced one since he was eight years older than her and has worked in the hospital longer than she has.
“Hey Blake.”
“I heard you were given a leave of absence. Is something wrong?”
Kimberly wondered how he found out about that. How fast news spreads, it’s not even 24 hours yet and they’re already aware of her leave.
“No, nothing at all… I just kinda need a break.” she replied, not wanting to go into personal details.
Kimberly noticed Blake suddenly became nervous as he was now rubbing the back of his neck.
“Um… Are you sure it’s just a break? You know I can help if something is wrong.”
Oh, so that’s why he suddenly became nervous, she couldn’t help but smile at his politeness and willingness to help her if she had a problem. She wasn’t surprised though since she sensed it months back that he had a thing for her, although, she had tried sending the message that she was already taken on several occasions when they talked, but Blake didn’t seem to get the message, or, maybe he did but was still hanging on, just in case something goes wrong at some point which she doubts would ever happen.
Kimberly sometimes feels pity for him while other times, she feels like yelling at him to leave her alone but that would hurt his feelings and she wasn’t taught to behave in such a manner. Her dad would be disappointed in her if he ever gets to find out that she was rude to anyone.
“Believe me Blake, it’s nothing.” she replied with a polite smile.
“But two weeks is quite long for nothing, considering the kind of person you are… No offense though.” Blake said, sounding confused and concerned at the same time.
“I’m glad to know I can count on you if something goes wrong… but believe me, I really need this break. I'll be back before you know it.”
“I doubt that, since your presence is highly noticeable and needed here.”
“So is yours… I have to go now cos I need to run some errands before I head home and I’m really sleepy right now.” Kimberly said, trying to end the discussion so she could leave the hospital and arrive on time to get Ian.
“O-okay. I’m sorry I took some of your time.” he apologized.
“It okay. Take care of yourself.”
She gave him a peck on his cheek, causing him to blush a little. She had no idea her little action could do that.
“Goodbye.” he said loud enough for her to hear as she walked away from him and headed for the elevator, waving goodbye before the elevator closed.
Kimberly exited the hospital and headed for the parking lot. She spotted her white Toyota Camry sedan and unlocked it, letting out a heavy sigh as she got into the car.
She was really excited about seeing Ian but at the same time anxious. Was he going to be as excited as she is when he sees her? Would their relationship still have the same spark as it used to? Why was she even having these stupid thoughts? She wondered. Ian is her fiancé who is madly in love with her, so why is she suddenly feeling insecure?
She brushed off the feeling and decided to go grab something to eat before going to the Naval Base.
Kimberly felt goosebumps all over her body as she drove into the Naval Base. She was really nervous about seeing Ian after such a long time. She couldn’t help but wonder if he has lost weight, she prays he’s well and okay. After spending twenty minutes looking for a spot to park her car in an already full parking lot, Kimberly luckily found a spot and parked her car.Coming out of her car, Kimberly couldn’t help but stare at the families who had already reunited and we’re heading back home. She could see the genuine happiness radiating from the soldiers and their loved ones. She sight brought tears to her eyes. She quickly tore her eyes away from the scene, wiping a stray tear from her face. She locked the door to her car and headed for the harbor where the ship was, as she didn’t want to keep her fiancé waiting. On getting to the harbor, Kimberly squeezed
“Home sweet home!” Ian breathed as Kimberly parked in the driveway after gulping down the rest of his coke.He got out of the car, taking in his surrounding once again after being away for so long.Kimberly climbed out of the car and was about going to the trunk to get Ian’s suitcase when she noticed his outstretched arms. He was standing in front of the car, waiting patiently for her. She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.“What about your suitcase?” she asked, not entirely sure if he wanted her to take his hand at the moment.“We can get that later.” he replied with a wide smile.Kimberly couldn’t help but smile back, his smile was contagious. She quickly interlaced their fingers as they walked to the porch. She unlocked the door and they went in.“I had the whole plac
Kimberly stared at her lover as he was fast asleep. He looked so peaceful and handsome. Her eyes lingered on his slightly parted lips, she felt the urge to kiss him, but refrained herself because she didn’t want to wake him up as he must probably be tired after the long journey. She carefully removed his hand from her waist and quietly got out of bed, making sure not to cause any noise. She got into the closet and picked out another underwear, since Ian ripped the one she was previously wearing. Smiling at the memory, she took one of Ian’s t-shirt and wore it, then wrapped her hair up in messy bun before quietly walking out of the room.Kimberly walked into the kitchen and sat on an island stool, thinking of what to make for lunch. She knew she needed to think fast because Ian wasn’t an heavy sleeper, so he’d soon be up.After some minutes of thinking and going through a cookery book
Kimberly couldn’t help but laugh at Ian who was repeatedly grumbling about the welcome party his mom mentioned earlier.“Babe, please finish your meal.” she said stiffling a laugh.“You don’t understand. I told her that a party wasn’t necessary since I'll be leaving soon.” he replied with a frown.“It’s okay, babe.”“It’s not okay! She never listens to me!” he yelled making Kimberly flinch.Ian noticed her reaction and felt bad for frightening her with his unnecessary anger.“Baby I'm sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” he apologized, taking her hand in his, placing light kisses on her knuckles.“I understand.” she quietly replied, stabbing her food with her fork, suddenly losing her appetite.
After breakfast, Kimberly went out to get some groceries while Ian remained at home. On her way to the supermarket, she couldn’t help but think back to their love making earlier that morning.Ian was a totally different person in bed that morning, one she couldn’t recognize. It was like she awoke some kind of beast in him. The bite marks all over her body were proof of his actions which she doesn’t want to look at for the time being. She got what she asked for.The sex was amazing, she could still feel the effect on her lower region. She had to be honest with herself, she didn’t like that Ian. She’s satisfied with the gentle and passionate Ian she fell in love with. But she couldn’t help feeling kind of proud and moved when she saw the look of content on Ian’s face as he devoured her.Maybe, she would let him have his way once in a while, that would help spic
Kimberly cried her eyes out in the kitchen. She couldn’t tell how long she had stayed there because she didn’t want to face an angry Ian. After what felt like hours, she left the kitchen, walked passed the living room and went upstairs to the bedroom. When she got into the bedroom, did she realize that Ian wasn’t home. How did she not notice when he drove out? She guess she must’ve been too engrossed in her thoughts and tears to notice anything. With that conclusion, she peeled off her clothes which was currently soaked in tears and sweat and went into the bathroom because she desperately needed a warm bath. While running the bath, she wrapped her hair in a messy bun and wiped off her makeup before getting into the bathtub. For the first time in forty eight hours, Kimberly hated the fact that she took a leave of absence. If she hadn’t taken that leave, she would’ve gone to the hospital to take care of some
Kimberly took gentle steps as she climbed down the stairs because she was a little nervous, wondering if Ian was mad at her for forgetting about the party. She saw Ian typing away in his phone, as the living room came into view. She stood at the end of the staircase and let out a heavy sigh before speaking up to make her presence known.“I’m ready.” She said, earning Ian’s attention.Kimberly noticed the way Ian stared at her for a few seconds before composing himself. He had a look of admiration in his eyes, but quickly shook it off because of his stupid pride.Kimberly hated the fact that Ian let’s his pride get the best of him. She didn’t care anymore if he was going to compliment her or not, she just wanted them to get everything over and done with, so she could come back home and get some rest because today has been one heck of a dra
Kimberly stared at Mr. Gareth with confusion written all over her face. How did he notice? Was it that obvious?“If you don’t feel comfortable talking here, we can go outside.” he suggested, making Kimberly realize that she can’t find her way out of this one, because Mr. Gareth wasn’t willing to drop the subject.Although, Kimberly is open with both of Ian’s parents, she doesn’t know how Ian would react if he found out she told his dad about their fight, but she desperately needed someone to talk to at the moment, so she nodded in agreement and they left the party.Kimberly and Mr. Gareth walked out of the house through the back door and arrived at the pool area. She felt herself relax as she was now in the fresh air, away from the crowd. It made her feel as if she had nothing to worry about, which was far from the truth but she couldn’t help it, she al
