He refused to reply as he averted his gaze to the wall. He was not going to talk about it. I wondered why.

“How is your revenge plan going?” he asked, trying to push me away from the main question I had asked. “I hope it’s going well.”

“Yes,” I said but I was not done with the question. I still wanted to satisfy my curiosity. “What was that about? Why did you grunt that way? Is anything the matter?”

I was worried about him and I wanted to find out what the problem was.

He showed up late at night, reeking of alcohol and being grumpy. Something was up.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” he said. “I’m fine. If you're worried about my drinking then you should know that it was a couple of drinks. Nothing major since I drove back home in one piece.”

He was deflecting my questions even more.

“Come on,” I said, going to a couch to sit on. “I want to know what’s up. I want to know what the problem is.”

He seemed to succumb into my question as he finally decided to answer.
