Chapter seven

"Ambush!" shouted the men outside and all I heard were growls and screams. The carrier door flew open and crashed to the ground.

"Romanov's men." Garrett let out enraged as he instructed me to scramble to the other side of the seat, he was dragged out. The giant claws reached for my legs, they were enormous, unlike every werewolf I've seen. As I kicked out of him the door behind me unlocked and I nearly stumbled into another wolf. He grabbed me under his arm. I felt weightless and he pulled me roughly from the carrier. I yelled and screamed for help but everyone was mostly fighting the monsters.

That is what they're Ramanov weapons. I slashed his arms with the knife Garrett motioned to me and I caught myself almost free, again I severed him the second time.

His growl cursed me and I knew I had made contact, as his grip grew loose, I stumbled to my feet and ran. All around me they were fighting each other and gashes ran through my eyes, looking back I saw them approaching me, they had come for me as Garrett clearly said.

I ran without direction climbing up the hills my feet slipped off the leaves that were covering the ground and the wolves trailing behind me were very close, I made it to some extent before I was grasped from behind, I fell forward the knife slipping from my hand as the fang struck through my flesh, I winced in pain.

"Get off me!" I shouted at the wolf that stood before me, his fur was black and his eyes glowed like a beast. I wonder if they were any close to what Fiona had cautioned me as fear trembled in my stomach knowing I'd met my doom.

I looked down but everyone had shifted fighting for their lives, Garrett' stood by his sword instead of shifting and fighting them, I recognised his tactics, the smaller you're the more effective, kicking my legs in the air the wolf peered through my eyes like has seen the reflection of himself, he growled bringing his forelimbs closer. I saw the pain in his eyes, that I couldn't decipher, they were werewolves weaponized, like a part of me felt his words.

"Free me." He communicated.

Fangs struck through the air I turned my head, squeezing my eye shut in panic and as I did I glimpse through the side and I saw the glistening of the emerald eye  werewolf before me, shredding every other to the floor,

"Please don't hurt me," I said, clutching my knees. And he transformed into the human form.

He took my hand and helped me to my feet whilst I trembled, unable to look away from the awful sight.

"Why did you kill him?" I asked, tears clustering in my eyes and the pity that ran through me as the monster groaned faintly. What is this man and how did he get to be my mate, I was scared of him too.

"Don't worry I won't hurt you." He said assuredly.

"But he was clearly no threat."

"Not until he rips your head and hands it over to his master, '' Andrea said.

"I'm sorry sir, I should have protected her with my life," he said, lowering his gaze disappointedly.

"She will ride with me, send the other injured back to the packhouse and have healers tend to them." He instructed and Garrett obeyed, that the power of Alphas they're not plenty but roar their effect into the others. Garrett did as he was told and passed the information to the carrier before joining us with his horse.

I winced in pain from where the claws had struck, and blood splattered on the beige coloured dress I wore, tearing through the jacket, the lady had given me earlier,

"I planned on returning this but now it is ruined," I muttered.

"Why I'm I going with you?"

"Are you flustered, is that how to behave toward your lifesaver?"

He said it and I felt more embarrassed to look at him, his muscles were no lie from what I had assumed, after he shifted to his human form I wanted to see more than his back view, Garrett had provided him with linen to cover his naked flesh, he looked hot and just like that everyone would want to ravish him to bed them.

"How did you know we were under attack?"

"I didn't know maybe something you did the other time back in the motel." He crooned softly.

I couldn't remember what happened. I was sure I didn't talk to him, I wanted him to make me understand.

"What was that?" I asked.

"Forget it," he said and I did as he said although I might have channelled him unknowingly, my wolf said to me.

"Why didn't you shift?" He asked and I couldn't speak anymore,

"So you do make mistakes?" I asked, trying to ignore his nerve-wracking question.

I turned to look at him, "do you see blood, like how often? You're shaking." He pointed out.

"I did see how wildly they attacked, they sliced a man into half before he could shift." I kept my voice light but I was still trembling.

He chuckled, and his warm breath brushed against my shoulder, sending a tingling sensation through me. Mate, my wolf said,

What are you doing riding with her? Claire snapped and Alpha Andrea didn't reply to her. He took his time to help me down the saddle. Her eyes filled with rage and hatred, as if she had wished I perished in the woods, she turned to him then back to me feigning a smile.

We were attacked, Andrea said as she took him in for treatment leaving me to the cold that blew harshly on my wounds.

"I'll see to that," Garrett said as he helped me to the tent just before us. I stared at him, emotionally, he had been hurt too, but they're no healers.

"They'll send them tomorrow."

"You're more compassionate than I thought," I said as he applied alcohol to disinfect the wounds,

"It's my job, you're my responsibility as Alpha Andrea too." He said it and I felt in his voice the sound of obligation. Does he know I'm Alpha Andrea mate? I wondered.

"Your pack is lucky to have you as a trainer." Especially Andrea, said my wolf.

"We're done, and if you notice any bleeding let me know." He said and I nodded to him, I closed my eyes and tried not to sleep and soon despite the terror of the day I fell into a troubled sleep.
