The minotaur had jumped on the manticore and was wrestling both it tail and it's head at the same time. Lyle could not believe his eyes and was frozen where he stood. Soon the minotaur had the manticore in a head lock with one arm, and still had it's tail. The minotaur's grip on the tail seemed to be keeping the manticore from being able to fire it's spikes. The manticore yowled and tried to roll over to get the minotaur off, but the chains did not allow it to do any more than roll to it's side. The King stood up. He was furious. "He is supposed to go after the challengers not the beasts that are in there to kill them!" He walked to the balcony again and yelled to the archers himself this time. He did not want to wait for the head guard to come up to the box. "SHOOT THEM!" He yelled with his arm pointing into the maze. The archers took aim, and let their arrows fly. Lyle moved around the hedge wall and used it as a little cover, while the mintaur took advantage of the ma
Amaris turned and started to run as the woman went back inside and closed the door. She was out on a large terrace now. There was a huge stairway that led down to the next level. Amaris knew that there was no time, the King would discover that she was gone at any moment. Amaris ran to the top of the stairs, when she heard voices below. They were speaking in hushed tones, but it was clear that there were several people down below her. She stopped at the top of the stairs and spun to see if there were any other exits from the terrace. Unless she went back in through the door and into the castle, there was no other way off the terrace. Amaris turned back to the stairs, and took the first few steps down. She scooted toward the middle to see if she could catch a glimpse of who was talking. She could see the arm of someone that standing under the stairs, but that was all she could see. Amaris backed away from the side and stood very still while she was thinking of a way past them
Amaris concentrated on getting all of the soldiers, anyone who is still captive, Michalis and Nikos, and of course, Lyle out of the palace. Amaris decided that it would be a good idea to include Gran also so that she did not need to try and run to get away from the guards after everyone was out. She wished for them all to goto the little fishing village that they had landed in when they came to the mainland. Amaris felt a huge drain on her body suddenly. It was so strong that she dropped to her knees. The exhaustion that followed overwhelmed her and it was all she could do to stay awake. Amaris opened her eyes. Gran was gone, and she was all alone out in the courtyard. Amaris was dizzy and disoriented, but she knew that she needed to tell Anna and the rest of them where she had sent everyone to. Amaris felt nauseous, but took a deep breath and tried to mind link Anna. "Anna." Amaris heard nothing. "Anna. Are you there?" Amaris waited as she tried to stumble to her feet
When Amaris awoke, she was still in the back of the car. It was dark and she could not hear a thing. She could feel she was alone in the car. She rubbed her face and slowly sat up. The car was parked in a garage. The garage doors were closed, and the only window on the side had been boarded up. Amaris took off her seat belt, which was still on, and opened the car door. She went to get out on the passenger side and that was when she remembered that she had gotten sick on floor. She groaned and looked down, only to find that it had been cleaned up. With a sigh of relief, she stepped out of the car closing the door quietly. She walked to the side door of the garage. Listening, she could hear voices on the other side. She slowly turned the handle and openned it just a crack to see if she could see anyone. She had passed out while they were still being chased, and wanted to make sure that she had not been captured again, or hidden away and was walking into the wrong hands. Ama
"I think we need to be creating a plan to get us out of here, and figuring out how we can keep you safe until we can do something about the King. He will not stop hunting you, until he has your powers. We need to get you safe, and then these fine men here can take him out." Gran had put her arms around Alexis and Andreas. They were so tall her arms did not reach their shoulders, so she held them around their waists. Alexis and Andreas looked down at her one smiled and the other scowled. "Do you have a plan?" Alexis said. "So far we have not been able to do much to keep her safe. She has been saving us." Gran raised her eyebrows. She let go of the two men, turned and stood next to Amaris and Lyle. "So far she has done what she has needed to do to stay alive and to keep those around her alive. She is still learning her powers. What we need to do is to give her time." Everyone in the room looked at Gran. Taji leaned out from behind his brothers, "Time to do what?". Nikos too leaned forwa
Amaris sat back and looked at Gran who had a big grin on her face. Anna walked over and squeezed in between Lyle and Amaris. "Sorry Romeo, but we need to get this meeting moving, and you just can't help yourself." She said patting Lyle on the shoulder at his disappointed look. Lyle rubbed the back of his neck again and smiled raising his hands in the air. "Got me." There were a few laughs and then everyone turned back to Gran. "Well, as I was saying. We will be splitting up." Everyone gathered around her nodded. Gran had presented this idea already, and no one seemed to disagree with her. "Lyle you will be taking Amaris and hiding. NONE of us is to know where you are." Amaris' eyes grew wide and worry now crept in. Up to this point she had been able to stay safe because she had the help of a lot of people. She did not want anyone else to die, and she was afraid that she would get Lyle killed if he felt that he was her only line of defense. Gran pointed a finger at Amari
Amaris stood there frozen and watched the back of Gran as she walked out of the room. She slowly sank back down on the couch next to Lyle again. He still had not moved from his spot, but seemed to be in deep thought. Amaris brought Lyle out of his stupor by grabbing his hand. "Did she just say what I think that she said? Are we going to have a baby?" Amaris thought about what Gran had said 'Little ones'. What did she mean? Was she talking about our children in the future? Amaris felt just like she often had lately after talking to Gran, more confused. Lyle took a deep breath and turned to Amaris. "According to the tapestries that we saw earlier, you and I will have one set of twins. A boy and a girl. Like you they will also have powers. Which means that like you they will also be hunted by others for what they can do." Lyle hung his head. He did not want to think about his children being hunted anymore than he wanted to think about Amaris being hunted. Now it was Ama
When Amaris' hand touched the young man's arm she suddenly was transported to another time. It was night here. There was the unmistakable sounds of fighting. Growls, and yelling all around her. The young man that Amaris had just been talking to was in front of her hiding behind a tree. He held some sort of black box in his hand and loooked to be waiting for something. "Where are we?" She asked the young man in a whisper as she stepped closer to him. The man did not respond. He did not even look at her. She reached up to tap him on his shoulder. Her hand went right through him. Amaris jumped back startled. She stared at her own hand, and then tried to touch the tree next to her. Her hand passed through that too. She took another look around her. She realized that the man standing next to her was speaking. "They are leaving now. Green transport truck. She is hidden in the back under the tarp. Out" The man said. He was putting the box away and turned to leave in th
