Twenty-three: Fist Fight

"I'm hungry" I complain as I walk into the kitchen. Mikki cocks her head and me, her eyes tied.

"Your one to talk" she sighs.

"What are you talking about?" I ask wondering over the toaster to put some bread in when Carson suddenly hits my hand.

"I'm making porridge. And you're going to eat it, sit down" she tisks like I was a naughty kid. I turn around and slump into the chair beside Mikki.

"I didn't eat last night" she replies as she folds her arms onto the table and rests her head on them.

"Why didn't you eat?" I ask. Casually casting a glance towards Ember, who sat at the dining table, made me feel sad. Ally was paying no attention to her, and Ally was the type of person to talk to everyone. Guilt coils inside me and I look away. I saw the reason everyone was avoiding her. I should have kept my stupid mouth shut.

"Are you listening?" Mikki waves a hand in my face, her voice brisk.

"Yeah, I am now."
