Chapter 41

EMMA

I tried pulling against the door, but it burned my hands. Red scorch marks were left on my palms from the handle and blistered immediately.

I turned around, trying to figure out what the hell was going on. The was no reason why the door was stuck from both sides or why it was hot enough to burn me. It made no sense.

The air around me thickened, as if the oxygen was being sucked away. It was no longer just a bit breezy. Bitter coldness rushed over my body, making it feel like sharp ice was being dragged across my skin. The cold seeped deep into my bones, and it made them hurt like hell. It felt wrong. It all felt wrong.

I knew I was not alone. Even though I could not see anything, I knew there was something out here with me. It was eerie and entirely unmistakable.

The shadows in front of me blended together, swirling, and gathering together until a large singular one formed. The shadow had no eyes, but I could feel it watching me, analyzing me, and looking for my weaknesses. A
