“The Castellano’s?” I gulped audibly. “But you said you left the Verdi’s.”

“The Castellano’s were my family, the Verdi’s were a job.” His eyes met mine with a dark sparkle. “The Verdi’s were my ticket to finding my father, to eventually leave that life.” 

“Wait,” I shook my head, clearing my thoughts for a moment. Everything was jumbling up into a contorted puzzle. “So you left the Castellano’s to join the Verdi’s, to then leave?” 

“In short, yes.” 

“So your father worked for the Verdi’s?” I was beginning to piece the puzzle together, albeit slowly. “And Luciano?”
