Twenty Two
Owen sits in the jail cell, feeling completely hopeless. He had hoped that his parents would have him out by now, but they will not set his bond, so he is stuck in jail until they do.
“Matthews you have a visitor.” The officer calls out from behind his desk.
A minute later the other officer opens the door to allow the visitors to pass. At first Owen does not recognize the man that walks in, until he sees his father behind him. The man is his childhood friend, Jesse Landers.

Owen moves beside his father as they head out into the darkness in search of the unknown figure that his mother saw. Neither of them have weapons, since Owen does not keep any at the house for far that the town's people would somehow know and that it would confirm every bad thought that they had about him. He does not want to confirm their lowest opinions of him, so he inhibits himself to please people that will never stop judging him. Although that realization is a nice little break through, it is not really very helpful to them at the moment, as they go to face a killer without a way to defend themselves.

“He was with me all night.” Liv says immediately, the second that the sheriff comes into the living room, where Liv, Lacey, Jack and Jesse are sitting. “Okay.” The sheriff says with a nod. “Please, everyone have a seat.” Andy moves over to a chair and sits down, pulling Lacey into his lap. Jack sits on the arm of their chair. The sheriff takes the wooden rocking chair that sits under the window. That leaves the couch for Owen, Liv and Jasse. That leaves Liv nestled between Owen and Jesse.

Owen was in his room later that evening, looking throught the clothes in his closet to see if he had anything nice enough to wear to this bizarre meeting with the killer. The meeting that no one in his family wants him to attend. Liv sits on the bed watching him, anger in every line of her body. She did not offer to help him sneak pass Lacey, but she also has not threatened to turn him in to his mom, so he counts that as a win. She is neutral on the subject. Or so he thought.

Liv watched Owen go down and an involuntary scream left her lips. “Owen!” She slides from the chair to fall at her knees, rolling him towards her and cradling his head on her lap. “Owen, honey, wake up!” She pats his cheek roughly and his eyelids flutter. The back of his head is bleeding and she can feel it seeping through her pants leg. She looks up at the person who hit him, ready to light into them when she notices the gun pointed at her face.

“Liv!” Owen's hart stops beating in his chest when he hears the deafening sound of the gun going off and he sees Liv fall backwards to the ground. He hears her cry out in pain and his stomach knots up. He can not breath and he feels his throat tightening up when she does not move. “No. No, no, no! Liv, get up, baby! Get up!” Owen cries, looking at her.

Owen spends three days and nights beside her bed, not leaving and barely eating. He has not showered or shaved. He changed clothes in her attached bathroom and gave himself a wash rag bath so that he would not stink, but that is the most that he would do. He would not leave her side for anything. Andy and Lacey brought him food and drinks. Jack and Andy ran the motel for him while Lacey spent her days at his side, keeping him company.
