Garvin's POV

After a moment of silence, the eldest man, who seemed to have some beef with me, spoke up. "Did you just say that we are being overbearing?"

"Yes," I said without any hesitation. I looked at him challengingly, hoping for him to flare up.

Instead of doing that, he looked at another elder. "Do you see how he is talking to us?"

"Preposterous," one of them said, getting up. "Young man, you have to think about what you say a little more; otherwise, you might get into some real trouble."

"Real trouble with who?" I asked. "You guys?" I sneered. "You think too highly of yourselves."

"Enough," Uncle Gaston said, silencing both parties at once with a single glance. It was obvious to anybody in the room at this point that he was the most respected, probably even had the most power, maybe even more than I did.

"At least he still knows his place," I thought, glaring at the elders in front of me.
