Chapter 59: A Name to Hold On

“Thanks for helping me out,” I said even though I have no idea what happened to me, where I’ve been, or what caused this tragedy. The only consolation I have is being alive at this point.

“She doesn’t remember even her name, Mama. What should we call her?” the boy asked his mother; genuine concern was etched on his face.

“Maybe we should make her a name until she remembers her name.”

The boy nodded. Then he looked at me with a cautious expression. “What do you think, miss? Is it alright with you if we make you a temporary name?”

I am confused, lost, and feeling a big void in my chest. I just woke up in some place with zero memory. I don’t know any people even myself. Is saying no even an option? I don’t think so.

“If you please,” I said and grabbed the mug of water at the bedside table.

The boy’s eyes lit up. “Then we shall call you Daphne!”

“Why Daphne?” The boy’s mother asked.

“Because I read it in the book I saw in the woods.”
