I'm Alone Again

Ruby wiped her wet eyes. She felt a mixture of gratitude and the realization that Ed shared Lori's sorrow. He looked fine, but he wasn’t really okay.

"Javier would be proud, I think. He would smile while praising." Ruby could picture it vividly. Javier always praised even the smallest kindness.

"It seems like it." Ed looked around, observing the room's details, to find Javier's shadow.

The room was still the same, only it felt empty. The room was no longer filled with laughter and teasing.

"I'll let go, but you have to give me time." Ed whispered. The sorrow and sense of loss would remain, and who knows for how long? Ed knew Javier wouldn’t like it, so he asked for time to fulfill Javier's wish for happiness.

Ed would grant it, like Javier's other requests. Ed would fulfill that wish. He would live and try to be happy, but there would be a time for it.

"I think Javier would understand and maybe get mad if you suddenly became happy without going through the grief." Ruby held Ed's hand,
