BAB 147 I He Is Always Like That

Jaxon was staring out the window. He’d been doing it for a few hours, which worried some of his friends nearby, but they chose to let him sink into his own thoughts.

“Is it okay if he’s always like that?” Gavin, sitting on the couch with a deck of cards in his hand, asked.

Nicko only raised his head briefly before returning his focus to the game on the table.

“Mmm... mmm,” he muttered to himself.

Gideon, who didn’t play the game, did the same thing, so Gavin tried not to overthink his friend’s condition.

“I’ve never seen him like this,” Danny said abruptly, prompting Gavin to return his gaze to Jaxon.

Now, his best friend approached the bookshelf, his fingers touching each title stacked in front of him. His demeanor may appear calm, but the five men in the room who had known Jaxon since they were children knew he was lost in his thoughts.

“Look, he’s sadder than a broken-hearted teenager,” Danny added, prompting a loud snort from the subject of the conversation.
