Chapter 4

Alexandra’s POV

It was a mistake to come back….a very big stupid one.

What the hell was I thinking about coming back to this damn pack? Everything is the same as I left it! Hell my wolf still gets crazy at the sight of Alexis, my sister. And I cannot stand the sweet scent that’s rolling off her body in waves.

Is this a prank by the moon goddess? Did she get a kick out of making two blood-related siblings mates?

"Mate isn’t sister." My wolf sneered angrily, all he wanted was to connect and mate. But he didn’t get it…he couldn’t understand it.

I had been outside for close to six hours and now the sky had darkened considerably. The thing is, I want to avoid Alexis because I’m not sure if I can subdue my wolf in her presence, and I’m only left with two options. One is to go back tonight with Gena, and the other is to be a man and subdue my wolf so that I can at least stay a day with my family.

In the end, I picked option number two and walked back home sullenly wondering what excuse I was going to give Gena and Alexis. Whatever excuse, it needed to make sense to both of them even though I’ve fed them both different stories.

My feet walk through the familiar road and footpaths and mere minutes later I find myself at the doorstep of the house I lived in all through my years of growing up until my 18th birthday.

I sighed, that very day was the beginning of everything.

I rang the doorbell like I did hours ago, only this time I’m not going to run away, at least not until tomorrow. My ears picked up a scuffle on the other side of the door and seconds later the door was opened.

“Alexandra!” my mother exclaims, throwing herself at me. I steady her in my arms and reluctantly return her hug…I’m a little too old to be seen hugging my mother. My Dad appears behind her next, and he removes his glasses from his face.

“It’s really him Alexis,” he says in wonder. My mother steps aside reluctantly and my father takes her space and hugs me wholeheartedly, complete with the shoulder taps that I deem completely irrelevant.

He pulls away and grins despite the tears falling from his eyes. “It’s good to have you back, son.”

I look away from his face so that he won’t read into me and see that I’m not really happy to be back. My mother takes the floor and intertwines her hand with mine, pulling me inside. “Oh…you must be so hungry you poor thing. Come, I will make your favorite.”

Gena materializes from the kitchen and I stop my Mother so that I can make the proper introductions even though it’s all a lie. “Mom, Dad, I haven’t introduced you to my mate yet.”

My mother waves her hand like it’s nothing and gestures upstairs. “Alexis told us all about Gena as soon as we arrived, she’s doing something upstairs, but she’ll come down as soon as I serve dinner.”

I avoided Gena’s judging eyes and replied, “Oh....that’s good.”

Alexis comes down from her room when our mother shouts her name for the third time. The moment she steps into the dining room I nearly lose my head, her scent floods my senses and if I didn’t have the control I have on my wolf, I would openly sniff the air. She flashes a smile to Gena, who winks back at her, and then when she glances at me, she glares at me and a low growl actually escapes her lips.

“Alexis! Stop growling at your brother.” Mother yelps appalled at her actions while I hold back my laughter at how unapologetic she looks.

“The punk deserves it Mum.” She replied, taking her seat at the table which happened to be directly opposite me. My father spits out his drink while my mother’s face reddens, only Gena doesn’t look surprised, judging by the smile on her face.

“Until he gives me reasons why he left and why he came back, I’m not going to acknowledge him as my brother.” She said with a stubborn upward tilt of her chin.

I do nothing but stare at her face, she’s all matured and grown up now. It’d be a hundred times harder than I initially thought to explain my reasons.

Until I find the right things to say, I’ll be at her mercy, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep the secret of us being mates, even if it means denying my wolf.

I don’t want her to be frustrated like I was, and I definitely don’t want to be the one stirring hate in her heart towards our parents….because in the end, everything is going to point back to them.

Father slams his palm hard down on the dining table, but it doesn’t shake or move Alexis. In his most demanding voice he says, “Apologize to your brother now, Alexis.”

She glares at me and replies. “I haven’t done anything wrong, Father, and I definitely don’t see the need to apologize when I haven’t done anything. He’s the one who…”

“Enough!” he yells. He stands to his feet and repeats his earlier statement. “Apologize to your brother now!”

Alexis rolls her eyes and I cover my smiling mouth at how badass and sexy she is at that moment. Before things got out of hand, I stood on my feet and faced our father. “Dad, don’t pressure Alexis into doing something she doesn’t want to do.”  I heaved a sigh and continued now that I have his attention, “Permit me to say this, but she’s right. She doesn’t have anything to apologize for.”

“I’m the one that should apologize to everyone for leaving without saying anything.”

Our mother stands on her feet in support of her father and says, “Alexandra, she clearly disrespected you and…”

I cut my mother off and continued saying, “I haven’t earned her respect or any of yours. So until I earn it back, please treat me like an outsider. I’m not your son or your brother.”
