The cloaked figure’s staff glowed even brighter, illuminating the meadow with an eerie light. The guardians, undeterred, formed a protective circle, weapons at the ready.

"Who are you?" Alec demanded eyes narrowed, his stance ready for combat.

The figure paused, pulling back its hood. The face underneath was neither old nor young, male nor female, but a fluid blend of features that shifted like quicksilver. "I am Elandril, Keeper of Shadows, protector of the temple's secrets. And you have trespassed on sacred ground."

Seraphina, her voice level, responded, "We seek knowledge, not desecration. The realms are in peril. We believe the answers lie within this temple."
