Chapter 4 - Accident

Sadness still clings to the heart of a man named Jack Macario. The loss of Lilyana-the lover made him really helpless. It's hard to accept the reality of life, make it even worse. Running to escape, but the shadows of the past are always chasing. Burying all the memories in a faraway city, it didn't take away the pain in the slightest. It even creates a thirst that so demands its presence. Jack doesn't know how to let go the shackles of love that hurts him so much. Until he unwittingly has forgotten and neglected his happiness.

An ambulance with a loud siren arrived right in front of the wide open ER door. Then one officer came out of it while pulling a gurney. After that followed by Jack, a man who is now anxiously hoping for a miracle. Without being asked the other two men swiftly took the gurney to the hospital. They were all in such a hurry because the patient's condition looked very critical. Behind them Jack followed, he followed wherever the gurney was taken. It was the first time Jack had been in a hospital again, and certainly after five years had passed.

"What about her condition?" asked the doctor as he looked at his patient for a moment.

"The victim of the accident, a woman aged between 25 to 30 years. The victim lost a lot of blood. We gave her first aid so she could survive a little. However, her pulse was getting weaker, and she was unconscious." The ambulance officer replied telling the doctor.

"Quick, transfer to the hospital bed!" The doctor asked.

Carefully the doctor, assisted by ambulance officers and nurses, moved the patient.

"Doctor, I leave this patient to you," said the ambulance officer and left.

"Alright, quickly take him to the operating room!" The doctor immediately ordered the nurse to bring the patient.

"Okay, Doctor!" The nurse agreed to the doctor's order.

"If we don't act immediately, most likely we will lose this patient." The doctor saw blood still seeping wet from the patient's body.

"Watch out, get out of the way! Please give us a way!" A man in a blue uniform screamed in the hospital hallway as he pushed the gurney.

Several hospital employees such as nurses, doctors, officers to ordinary people immediately rushed to give way. They saw at a glance on the gurney there is a girl lying with a fairly severe wound. The girl was still silent, it seemed that a strong impact on the head caused her to faint. Blood continued to flow in every wound on her legs and other bodies, even the dress she was wearing was now full of red stains.

The crowd was growing there with the sound of doctors and hospital staff running. It is normal for the ER room to be noisy and also crowded. Because some emergency patients were taken to that place. Like a mourning songs, mournful screams, and even hysterical cries were often heard.

Turning to a patient who this morning was still feeling the beauty of the world. However, right now she is laying weak and helpless. The beautiful dark black mane was now wet with a pool of her own blood. However, the beautiful charm is still visible even though some wounds have been made real on her face and body. The girl was silent like a rose frozen in the middle of blizzard. Screaming and struggling, but no one heard the sound of her crying. Feeling cold and lonely, wishing that all this was just a dream.

"Nurse, is the operating room ready?" The doctor asked the nurse next to him.

"Everything is ready, Doctor!" Replied the nurse as she glanced at the doctor for a moment.

"Alright, let's get her there quickly. This patient is seriously injured, we can't delay it for too long!" said the doctor, still pushing the gurney.

"Okay, Doctor!" The nurse nodded her head while still looking ahead. Since then a man with guilt has been pushing the gurney along with the doctor and nurse. His two hands gripped the sides of the gurney, his carelessness had injured a girl. Without hesitation he still accompanied the injured girl to the front of a room.

Arriving at the door of the operating room, several people were waiting. Doctors and other nurses were ready to bring the girl to the operating table. Jack intends to enter the operating room, but a nurse forbids him.

"Are you a relative of the patient?" the nurse asked Jack quickly.

"No, I ..." said Jack paused for a moment.

"Then you? You'd better wait outside, we'll take action immediately!" The nurse was standing right in front of Jack, suddenly a pair of sharp eyes stared at him.

With a suspicious expression the nurse watched Jack's every move, wondering what he was thinking. The nurse wanted to ask further, but that was impossible. Because he had to quickly go to the operating room, and help the doctor there.

"But, Nurse. I wonder how she's doing!" Jack insisted on going into the operating room.

"Can not! Shouldn't you wait outside?" The nurse held Jack's body which was about to pass her.

"However, what about the girl? Will she be all right, Nurse?" Jack asked with a pitiful face, worry clearly visible in the strokes of his forehead.

"We will try our best, leave everything to us." Without another word, the female nurse entered and left Jack alone outside the operating room. After nearly an hour of standing, Jack decided to sit on the bench to wait. Leaning his tired body, he closed his eyes for a moment and thought. Never imagined by Jack, if he would come back in this condition. The pungent smell of medicine reminded him of bad memories. The trauma of being in the hospital immediately brought Jack to his senses. Slowly he opened his eyes, one by one every corner he looked at. He immediately left from there, but suddenly a nurse came to him.

"Are you the family of the girl who was injured earlier?" The nurse asked.

"No, Nurse. I'm not her family, I'm the one who bumped into her!" Jack felt guilty when he said that.

"How is this, what should I do? Then, where is the family, why haven't they come yet?" The female nurse looked a little confused.

"What is it, Nurse? Has something bad happened?" Jack was even more confused by the nurse's expression.

"How should I explain it to you, sir. And you're not her family!" the nurse scolded at Jack.

"Say it quickly, Nurse! Don't you know, I've been almost crazy waiting for it!" Jack urged the nurse.

“Alright, calm down. The patient is currently losing a lot of blood, and she needs a blood transfusion as soon as possible! The hospital is running out of blood, so we …. ”

"What kind of hospital is this? Why can't you provide blood for accident patients?" Jack screamed, scaring the nurse.

"Forgive us." The nurse didn't know what else to say to Jack.

"Then, how?" asked Jack suddenly.

"We're trying to get blood from another hospital, but it will take time. We're afraid the patient won't be able to wait too long." The nurse explained.

"What's her blood type?" asked Jack hopefully.

"A," answered the nurse briefly.

"Could you check my blood type? Maybe my blood is suitable for him," Jack asked a little forcefully.

"Hmm, fine." The nurse actually hesitated to accept Jack's request. However, it wouldn't hurt if she checked it out.

For Jack the line of life is very difficult to guess, unexpected or even with words. Once again the man felt that fate was playing with him. He had not yet recovered from the guilt, but now he was forced to surrender and give in. Is life really like this? Refuse, it seems impossible! Let alone protest, it's all too impossible! Maybe escape from destiny, but can Jack? If it's like this, the slightest happiness should be grateful, even though a big disaster awaits.
