My heart thudded at the sound of the door unlocking and locking. Klaus had his people install an alarm in the apartment, so I knew it was Kai when it didn’t go off. I perched up from kneeling on the bathroom floor. I had been stress cleaning, too excited for tonight.

Kai was early. It’s only past lunchtime.

Leaving the scrub on the bucket of soapy water, I removed my gloves and left them in the sink, washing my hands.
