Ember's POV

"Why don't you have a conversation with your groom?" My father suggested with an unusual excitement before exiting our presence.

We were plunged into silence, assessing each other. He had penetrating eyes and an intimidating aura so I squared my shoulders. I was not happy being left alone with him for two reasons.

First, I didn't want to make small talk. We could just skip all this part and go straight to the wedding. Secondly, I didn't want to give room for him to ask me questions about my chastity. I wouldn't even mind skipping the wedding although I knew that my father would flip. When I mean flip. He would lose it totally and I was here for it.

"So, you are a virgin huh?" He began.

My eyes widened as my heart also responded by palpitating at the lies that I was about to spew. It was my father's fault who was trying too hard to sell me out to his preferred candidate. I didn't know why he was hell-bent on making this work.
