Chapter 64: It's Complicated

Amber’s pov:

“Amber, let me cook,” Alessandro says ducking away from my arms and back to the cutting counter. “Let me help you out,” I suggest. “No, Mrs. Bianchi, I want to do this for you,” he says, picking up the vegetables that lie in front of him.

I stand back, admiring each move of his as he slices, dices, and chops. “The date was extravagant, Alessandro,” I let him know. “Thank you,” he chuckles as he begins boiling the veggies.

I’ve noticed that he smiles more often nowadays, which makes me happy. “Where’s Harlow?” I question out of curiosity. “He’s the new capo now, so he’s super busy,” Alessandro’s face frowns for a quick second as he says that.

“Oh, I see,” I tell him…That’ll be a topic for another day.

As his back muscles are exposed to me, many thoughts cloud my mind. His upper body is free of all the scars that he had two years ago, sure there are faint marks and traces here and there, but it’s a lot better than the first time that I saw them.
