“Nathan… fuck. I haven't even thought to message him,” I started, reaching for my phone which was quickly slapped from my hand.

“You can't do that over the phone! That's just… heartless!” Cassie retorted. “You've got to tell him in person.”

Call me a coward, but that literally sounded like the worst thing ever.

“Do I have to?” I asked Yvonne, praying she would be on my side and give me a “get out of it” card.

No such luck.

“Yes, I'd think hearing over a text that the girl I've been dating for the last few months has gone and mated someone else over the winter break would just be… bollocks.”

I raised an eyebrow at her description but didn't comment on her lovely Welsh-swearing vocabulary.

“Well what do you suggest I do then? Wait for him to take me out on a date and halfway through whip out the mark and go, ‘oh, this happened while I was away!’ I'm sure that would be worse.”
