Abby briefly dusted herself before running towards their front door.
It was left open!
"Aunt Sarah???! Mara? Clara?!! Hello?!!!!! Anyone in here? Where are you????"
She called out and went to check each of their room but there was no one. Even their closets were empty.
"They left me?!!!! Did they run away from home???"
When this thought crossed Abby's mind, she started to break into a cold sweat and so without wasting another minute of her time, she took a pair of slippers and immediately dashed to the road.
To her haste, she no longer noticed that the pair of slippers that she was wearing were mismatched.
The road was still wet due fro the previous rain and while Abby was running along with the traffic, a car that passed by her accidentally splashed water towards her direction.
"HOLY SHEEP!!!"
She gasped and almost cursed out loud when the splash of rainwater hit her face. She wiped the water off her face but the culprit was no longer around.
It was even a question whether the driver was aware of what it had actually done to poor Abby.
Abby was now drenched with rainwater, making her looked no different from a hapless street child. But she could only care less about it.
Worrying about how she looked like at the moment was the least of her concern because she had far more important matters that she had to attend to.
So Abby once again picked up her pace and despite the odd looks being thrown to her by those people whom she met along within the street, she remained unbothered.
For her mind was full of awful possibilities of how she might end up in the future if her hunch was right.
'Pleeaaasseee., please. Make my intuition wrong. I sincerely hoped that I am thinking it wrong this time.."
She said under her breath with a despondent tone.
When she arrived at the bank where all the money that her parents had left her was deposited, she immediately asked for an available clerk to assist her.
Good thing that she did not forget to bring her identification card with her despite her chaotic mind. So although Abby did not exactly look presentable at the moment, the security guard still let her in and the bank attendants also entertained her inquiries.
Yet when Abby heard the words that she dreaded to hear the most, her world started to crumble before her eyes.
"Miss Wright, I can see here on our database that your account was closed just this morning."
The voice of the teller that assisted her rung clear on her ears, but she still found it hard to believe. Those same words echoed inside her head as though a psychedelic voice was speaking directly to her.
Abby tried her best to stop herself from bursting into tears and went on asking for further details.
"H- How was that possible??? The account was registered under my name. How did someone manage to claim it without my consent???"
She asked with a quivering voice.
"Someone submitted us a written document just this morning, stating that Ms. Abby Wright was transferring all her assets to Mrs. Sarah Wright. It was signed and was even accompanied by complete and matching fingerprints of the account holder. They have all the necessary documents needed so the process went on smoothly."
When realization finally dawned on her, and when she got a solid confirmation that everything that was happening to her right now was for real, Abby was no longer able to hold back herself.
She secretly wished that it was also only part of her sick dream although she knew that can't be possible anymore.
Abby closed her eyes and tears freely ran down from her eyes like an open faucet as soon as she did that. She left the bank premises with the same sorry state but with the feeling of being devastated more than ever.
She walked down the wet pavement with a look as though her soul had escaped her body already.
"My money... my new life.... it is nothing but a pipe dream now.."
Abby said with a downcasted spirit.
"Whatever! At least, I was still left with a home and I can start from there."
She said after a while to cheer herself. Since no one would do that to her other than herself.
As Abby made her way back to their house, she could not help but notice how the route seemed to become farther than it previously was.She felt as though she spent a long time walking back home compared to the time that she actually took when she traveled from their house going to the bank.It might sound weird but that was what she could observe so far. Perhaps it was due to the mixture of exhaustion and disappointment that had finally taken a toll on her.But nonetheless, after a while of walking, she still arrived at the front door of their house. The house itself looked exactly the same just like how it was before. The only difference though was that it was now empty. There was no Aunt Sarah to boss her around nor no annoying Mara and Clara sisters to make fun of her.It was only then that everything that happened had finally sunk in at Abby.
"Mister... Please, understand my situation as well. As much as I wanted to pay you, I really don't have even a single penny with me right now."Abby pleaded with all earnestly as she tried to make the old man see some sense. Yet her plea only fell on deaf ears."NO! Give me your money or I swear I will make it sure that you will spend the rest of your dear life inside the cell.""Sir, please. I'm begging you. Please give me some time. I'll look for Aunt Sarah and once I found them, we will pay you back right away. If you want even with interest on top of that."Abby bargained but the other party was really a tough nut to crack"NO WAY! I am certain that you are just trying to dope me exactly like how that filthy wench mother of yours had done to me before. If you guys think that I would fall for the same trick again, you are all wrong! HUH! I am not a pushover!"
****Eugene was not sure how he was able to come back at the land of Marcella nor what was he exactly doing at that place at that moment. It was as though he was teleported back in the past. Some time within the old days, where there was no technology yet. Where mobile phones, TVs and the internet were not yet part of necessity and people could still function just fine even with the absence of electricity.Everything was exactly how he remembered it.From afar, he saw the flocks of seagulls as they migrated and flew towards the other side of the horizon. The squawking sound that they made was slowly being swallowed by the sound of waves.Eugene took his time to clearly observed how the sun that was as big as an orange plate started to dive in the sea; somewhere along the line where the sea and the sky met. After a short while, the sun had gone to completely made its way do
Amidst the raging mob who were gathered at the town plaza, stood a young man on tattered clothes.Contrary to the emotion that dominated the crowd, the young man was in tears as he watched the lady of his dream being burned at stake. The young man was obviously no other than Eugene, himself. He tried his best to muster his resolve and willed himself to think that what he was seeing at that very moment was not for real and all of it was just happening inside his head.It was nothing but a dream! But saying it like that and thinking it that way was not as easy as controlling his emotion. Because for Eugene, it was like he was being forced to relive his most painful memory over and over again. She was the love of his life and yet there he was, doing nothing as he helplessly watched from afar how everything unfold before him.He wanted to spe
Eugene bolted up straight from his bed and woke up with his face wet with his own tears. He subconsciously touched his necklace as soon as he woke up.It was the same necklace that Miyara wore before her death and it was the only thing that he managed to salvage from her.The blaring sound of his TV played on the background as it was left active while she was drowsing since he unknowingly fell asleep on the sofa while watching his favorite show on Netflix.Looking around him, he also noticed that the sun had already departed and it was already dark outside and so he stood up from his seat and opened the door in his veranda, wide enough to let the cold draft of the night enter his living room.He was just about to step outside the house when a small voice sounded behind him and called him out of the blue."Where are you going, master???"It was his sidekick/ pet, Jorah.Jorah was
Abby did not have an idea of how long she passed out or how did she even manage to reach the riverbank in the first place, knowing that she did not know how to swim. The rain had long gone now but the grasses, as well as the soil below her, were still moist. A black trench coat was wrapped around her body to protect her from the cold night draft.Checking herself for any casualties, Abby heaved a sigh of relief when she found none. She thought that she would really die for good back then but thanks heaven, that she did not.Or did she????When that thought crossed Abby's mind, she immediately checked herself again. This time, however, she deliberately stopped herself from breathing for a minute or two. Only when she felt that her lungs were still desperately craving for oxygen did she confirmed to herself that she was still alive and kicking.
Abby was just about to knock on the door when she saw something at the corner of her eyes."MADE FOR HIRE"She read the words written on the placard that was hung at the wooden door."Ohh??? Was it not an act called serendipity??? I am currently in search of a place to stay and this opportunity presented itself to me. Maybe this is the turning point of my life. I should have to give this one a try."'EHEM'Abby deliberately cleared her throat first as soon as she reached the entrance of the old mansion. Then after that, she knocked softly against its wooden door to announce her presence."Excuse me, is there anybody home? I wish to return something from a guy named Eugene and it was said in his ID card that th
"Stay right there."The same man commanded with so much authority in his voice to the point that even the panic-stricken Abby was made to comply. She heard footsteps and based on its sound, the other party was already getting near her, yet she remained frozen on the spot. She could not even move a finger at the moment, let alone her head to look at the direction of the man who was approaching her.For some unknown reason, Abby was scared stiff as a stone."Who are you and who brought you here???"The manly voice once again echoed within the darkness. His voice sounded psychedelic yet at the same time, it also had its own sense of appeal that could convince one to listen to his voice over and over again.Even Abby found it hard to deny that if she would ever be given a chance to listen to the other party's voice, she would gladly do so.
