Eleven

A FEW HOURS LATER

I stepped out of the meeting hall as my eyes glazed with the images of my slaves being tortured. The screams still echoed in my ears and I wasn't satisfied. I had grown tired of watching the vicious cycle of cruelty and oppression even if it was a necessary evil to keep the slaves in line but I had had enough for one day.

As I made my way across the courtyard, I could feel the eyes of my subordinates watching me. They knew that I was already not in a good mood so no one dared to speak a word to me. I was not known for being kind and any sign of weakness would only invite trouble from my enemies. I had to be heartless and show no emotion.

I stopped by a group of slaves, huddled together in a corner. They looked up at me with pleading eyes, hoping for mercy. I could feel their pain, but I could not afford to show any compassion. It was the law of my pack, and I was bound to enforce it.
